Beautiful lux hotel with great service, fantastic breakfast with beautiful and fresh ingredients, food for the soul. Staff were all super attentive and friendly. The complimentary toiletries in the room were so good, smelt real nice and we took advantage of the bath tub as they provided bath bombs.

We stayed at the end of Feb before the prices jumped (due to sakura season). If you stay 4 nights or more the price is better. Train station just next to the hotel, very convenient.

Location away from super tourist hot spots so it was nice and peaceful. There are limited food options outside of the hotel compared to the more central areas but enjoyed chancing upon little family run restaurants near by with authentic and quaint atmospheres.

Rooms: we had a king room with a balcony, it overlooked a garden they maintained as well as the castle wall, we really liked this view after the city scape that was Tokyo. The bed was western soft, which we LOVED. It was also a large King which we enjoyed, some "Kings" in Japan feel like they are on the smaller side, this was on the HUGE side, closer to a Wyoming king. The bathroom was nice, and the free mini bar(Excluding wine) was really good. I do wish this was explained better when we first got there. We didnt know until our second day that everything in the mini bar was included except the western wine. Having hot tea on the balcony was a nice way to warm up before heading to dinner in the evenings.

Service: The restaurant services was GREAT. We did the included breakfast, they were attentive, personable, and over all very nice and welcoming. The front desk staff were nice but not very informative. That might have been us though, we had been traveling for 9 days already, and this was an early train to get to Kyoto and drop our bags off so we could make reservations.

Location: this is perfectly next to Nijo Castle which is great, its also 100 meters from a subway station that made sight seeing and getting around the city a breeze, I would recommend it as we would spend about 12 hours outside of the hotel room sight seeing and exploring and the proximity to a subway station was nice.

I can’t imagine a better way to stay in Kyoto. The hotel is secluded and peaceful, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, the staff is incredible even amongst the incredibly high bar of baseline Japanese hospitality. The front desk helped us pick a restaurant for dinner and called to make reservations on our behalf. On our checkout morning my friend woke up with a fever, the staff immediately provided a medical cloth and thermometer and helped point me in the direction of the closest pharmacy with a handwritten note to get the medicine we needed. They reminded me checkout was at noon but offered a late checkout if she still wasn’t feeling well enough. I will absolutely return to Garrya Nijo Castle

I rarely post reviews on Google, but this experience deserves to be shared!

My friends and I stayed at Garrya Nijo Castle Kyoto for 5 nights in the first week of April, 2023. It was an amazing experience. The hotel is the perfect balance of modern aesthetic with traditional service and values.

For me the staff was the gem of the experience; they are probably the kindest, most attentive hotel staff I have ever encountered: Timothy-san is a very pleasant front office manager; Haruka-san and Kazuki-san provided outstanding recommendations for restaurants, onsen, gift shops and even an incredible art gallery; Tomo-san oversaw the immaculate condition of the rooms everyday; and Hitomi-san was visibly sad to see us go.

The rooms were incredible: from a Nespresso machine to a selection of lovely toiletries to the relaxing flow of energy through the space, they considered every detail to make guest time spent in the room as comfortable and serene as possible. The shower room/bathtub was exquisite, as was the huge California King bed.

It is not an exaggeration to say that my friends and I felt mild depression when we left Garrya Nijo and stayed at a major global chain hotel in Tokyo immediately afterwards - we were in some sort of culture shock at the vast difference of the experience.

With only a handful of rooms, Garrya Nijo provides a highly personalized experience, a calming and nourishing environment, top-notch course meals and beautifully appointed rooms, lobby and restaurant interiors. I would not want to stay anywhere else in Kyoto.

A warm thank you to the staff led by Timothy-san. 本当に言葉で説明できないほど素晴らしい経験でした。心から感謝致します!

We stayed 2 nights for Christmas. Room and all the spaces are reminding Kyoto architecture and arts, the service was always very customer-centric, so nice and proactive :)
We took a Christmas lunch, courses were great, and so are breakfasts!
Special thanks to the restaurant team’s high quality service!

I want to express the gratitude to Becky for mailing left-behind my packages even after I checked out. She has been kind to use the entire time from checking in and checking out. Beyond that, the room itself is beautiful and spacious, the food at Singular was delicious too.

My family and I just got back from a 9 day stay at the hotel. I have to say honestly we miss the hotel staff the most. It is the people that make a place special and they made our stay and us feel so special. There was nothing too big or too small for the staff. Before we left, the staff left us a beautifully hand written card and sweets for our daughter. It is the little touches like this that made our stay stand out. We have stayed in many 5 and 6 star hotels but none hold a place in our hearts such as Garrya Nijo Castle. If we visit Kyoto again, we will be staying there again for sure. The room and its view and the hotel as a whole is perfection personified.

My wife and I will always remember our stay. We came here for our honeymoon and were impressed by the excellent quality of the rooms as well as the service. The team that works here is one of a kind and I am so grateful for all of their efforts. Their attention to detail added a great deal of happiness to our already wonderful honeymoon in Japan. This is now our favorite place that we have ever stayed.

During my stay at the hotel, all the staffs especially Kazuki and Ayumi provided excellent service to my family. Kazuki greeted us warmly and introduced the hotel room to us. The room is spacious, clean and very new, the bathroom and toilet are beyond 5 stars. Although we don’t speak Japanese, we had no problem communicating with the staff by phone, email or in person. We even got the reservation of two Michelin restaurants with the Kazuki and Ayumi’s help! We enjoyed our the stay and will definitely come back next time when we visit Kyoto.

A truly wonderful hotel. The staff are attentive and the service is impeccable. You cannot fault the rooms. The lobby draws you in and considering the location. They are doing a great job of convincing you that you are in tranquil surroundings. Magical!!!

Only improvements….The a La carte is not substantial enough. You get a tasting menus sized portion. And if you are staying for more than a few nights like I did. The breakfast doesn’t vary at all.

Beautiful and stylish hotel across from the Nijo Castle. Spacious and modern amenities. Japanese or Western breakfast options. But what really set this hotel apart for us was the attentive and warm staff. We had an incident that really brought this out. My wife was injured during an excursion not arranged by the hotel. We needed to get her to a doctor to clean and dress a cut on her leg. The hotel manager, Timothy, sprung into action, finding a nearby clinic, scheduling an appointment and even accompanying us to the clinic to interpret for us. He stayed throughout, exhibiting genuine concern for my wife’s (and our) well-being. Over the next couple of days the hotel staff continued to inquire as to my wife’s recovery. It was very touching.
