THE GENERAL KYOTO Shijou Shinmachi 四条新町

Probably the nicest hotel of our entire trip & we stayed all over Japan at hotels in a similar price range. This hotel is immaculate - very clean, modern & offers everything you need. They have laundry, a lounge that’s open until 10pm everyday with free drinks (wine, whiskey, sake, espresso drink) & snacks. The room was also really spacious & clean. They do an eco-cleaning service so they don’t change the sheets every day; just new towels and trash which I actually appreciate because they are environmentally conscious. Perfect location for walking to many major attractions in Kyoto. Will stay here again

Everything was outstanding. Extremely clean and it is such an exquisitely beautiful hotel. Definitely worth the price, the free snacks was such a delightful surprise where guest can enjoy in the communal lounge area from noon.

The hotel looks new and clean. Rooms are well designed with details been carefully thought and planned. For the price paid, I would say well worth.
Besides, the hotel has a lounge that provides coffee and tea, with free alcoholic drinks from 4-10 pm.
Would be happy to come back if I ever travel to Kyoto again.

Our four nights stay at this hotel is more than satisfactory. It is well located within walking distance to lively commercial area, close to metro station and surrounded by nice restaurants and cafes. The hotel itself is very new with a comfortable and modern decoration. The standard room is spacious (compared to what we had at Tokyo). There are free snacks and drinks in the lounge. Tea provided in the room is good too. Very pleasantly surprised with the quality given the price.

Very luxurious for the price and the staff are welcoming and helpful! The hotel has a really nice common area for guests and good facilities such as a washing machine. Would love to stay here agin.

The hotel is not a large hotel but it is huge in service levels and provisions. What we liked about the room is that it has everything that any traveller would need - good toiletries, fluffy towels, a range of Japanese teas to be introduced to us with a very thoughtful note on it's respective preparation methods.
The bathroom and toilet provisions are top-notched. You'd have thought you were in a five-star hotel bathroom. In terms of space and size of room, of course, don't expect five-star space, but The General's room is comfortable, two single sofas, tv with US-CNN and the local Japanese channels. You can play your own Spotify music through the JBL bluetooth speaker with rich room-filling music.
Situated two stops from Kyoto main station, it is just the right place for us. Not too busy/noisy and near enough to access all the important parts of our itinerary via the rail and bus networks.
And to top is off, there is access to th executive lounge with afternoon teas and evening cocktails and drinks (including wines, beers, whiskey) and various japanese bites, snacks and cocktail nuts.

Free artisanal snacks and delicious traditional tea upon arriving. Bath salts and matcha cookies.

The guest lounge in the second floor is amazing. It has complimentary drinks and snacks, including whiskey and mochi.

Rooms were spacious and the decor looks both modern and traditional.

We really enjoyed our stay at this new hotel that opened in March 2023. The staff are incredibly accommodating and helpful. They made our stay a very nice one. Our room and bathroom were spacious, clean and comfortable. Would happily stay again if we visit Kyoto again.

This hotel doesn’t have any flaw the crew were nice, the hotel is in a great place - between 10-15 min from train station.
In addition, they also offer several services such as the lounge which offer you a free desserts they maid + several alcoholic drinks for free.
The crew also really helped us when we wanted to transfer our luggage from Kyoto to Osaka.

absolutely love this quaint boutique hotel which is situated close to the shopping street (1km away which is a 15 mins walk, tops) — it’s new and really clean, room is spacious compared to most japanese hotels and there are eateries nearby, with Lawson and 7-11 close by, and the bus stop provides easy access to the train station and most sights. the lounge provides free treats and drinks (refer to image) housekeeping was a little careless, found a robe underneath our sheets… otherwise 10/10 would recommend!

Not the biggest hotel but still very nice 👍 Great lounge with snacks and drinks and the room was very clean. The location is also great for exploring Kyoto and the surroundings.

The location was very convenient. The service was excellent and the rooms were clean, bright and full of amenities. The lounge where, tea/ coffee/ drinks and snacks were served free of charge was such a lovely extra.
