An awesome hotel with impeccable design and service, well revitalized historic site of former Mitsui mansion. The art tour and the tea ceremony are must-do things while staying in this hotel. A small flaw is that cherry blossoms in the garden are not bloomed during my stay. It definitely where I will stay when I go to Kyoto next time. A special thanks to superb hospitality of staff in the hotel.

Incredible hotel and spa. My husband and I spent a few nights there for our honeymoon and it was an amazing experience from check in until check out. The spa is next level. I especially loved the private onsen and the massage was the best massage I've ever had. A very special thank you to Hitomi, the concierge, for helping us plan our trip! She provided so many great restaurant recommendations and really went above and beyond for us to make sure we had a great experience. Thank you!

This is a fantastic hotel in a convenient but quiet location in the heart of Kyoto. The location used to be private property but was converted into an ultra luxury hotel with access to natural onsen waters deep beneath the surface. The rooms are very nicely designed and use premium elements, with only a total of 4 floors to further enhance the exclusivity. The common areas include a beautiful lobby, a lovely Japanese garden, well equipped gym, and a wonderful spa and private onsen that can be booked. We tried out the onsen for an hour, and it is definitely worth the value.

The service is impeccable, with people available to assist in your needs, whether it is your immediate arrival or departure from the hotel, the warm check-in service, and the greetings provided by the hotel staff whenever and wherever you encounter them.

The only minor quibbles I would have with the hotel are its western breakfast selection (the traditional Japanese breakfast is fabulous) and the water pressure of the in-room shower. In regards to both of these areas, the luxury hotels in China generally can't be beat.

All in all, a wonderful hotel, if the price is within your budget.

One of the best hotels I have ever experienced. Loved the simple and elegant design. Excellent service. Great food. Nice location across the Nijo castle. Would love to visit again

This hotel is absolutely stunning and the service is impeccable. The rooms are very comfortable and large, we stayed in a Garden View room which had a beautiful view of the courtyard. My girlfriend and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary here, and Patricia at the concierge desk did an absolutely incredible job making our stay special. She helped me organize flowers and a special setup to the room to surprise my girlfriend.

Additionally, she helped us set up multiple meal reservations at restaurants for our weekend in Kyoto! Even the smallest restaurants require reservations, so we really leaned on her to help us. I keep Kosher so communicating dietary restrictions is very difficult since I don’t know the language. Our sushi Omakase lunch didn’t fully understand and made a couple mistakes, but when we revisited with Patricia she called our dinner reservation to ensure they understood and we proceeded to have our absolute favorite meal of our Japan trip. She is one of the reasons we would stay at this hotel again!

The one downside of this hotel is the location. It is not the most conveniently located to bus and train stations, so commutes to the different tourist spots took a lot of time. There are some really good restaurants in the area, however if you are trying to explore the expanse of the city, it can be difficult from this location.

I have stayed in this hotel before and have a second trip coming up, but this time with my girlfriend and this will be her first time to Kyoto and to The Mitsui Kyoto. The property is immaculate and the staff are some of the best that I have encountered. Special recognition goes to Minori for providing 5-star service. I am looking forward to another great stay!!

The moment that we stepped inside Hotel The Mitsui we felt welcomed and amazed by the hospitality of staff. Prior to our stay, they reached out to us and all my special requests were taken care of. This is our second time at the hotel to celebrate our anniversary and they gave us the same room where we’ve previously stayed at, this was very impressive. We wanted to thank all the hotel staff (Mei, Miyako, Minori, Asako, Yusuke, and staff that I couldn’t recall the names) who made all the arrangements for us and made our stay much more enjoyable and memorable.

Wow just wow! If you love modern design with Kyoto charm I would highly recommend Mitsui Luxury. Eveything about this place quietly whispered luxury and design. This is my favorite hotel by far in Kyoto.

Rooms were beautiful and aesthetically pleasing.

There were two restaurants one was French and another Italian. I only ate at the Italian restaurant and it was delicious.

The bar was breathtaking with the views of the garden. How could you not feel at peace here. The location was great as well just across the street from the Nijo Castle. Service impeccable I can’t rave enough about this place. Would come back for sure

Stayed in the Onsen Suite, which was around 2-3x more expensive than a regular room. Was very nice, but not sure if worth the price. Breakfast is great and rooms are clean. Misaki is the best!!

This hotel is amazing, I enjoyed every minute there.
the staff are very friendly and helpful with many different things.
When they knew that I’m muslim and I dont eat/drink some things, they tried to find a solution for everything that I dont eat , even the oil they’re using to fry !
Thank you Mitsui family.

Returned to stay for three nights. Fantastic property with a fabulous garden, water features, and a weeping cherry tree. It was tranquil to sit in the lounge with a welcome tea and sweet while awaiting to be checked in. The service team was friendly and enthusiastic. The room was nice and quite well-designed with sliding doors sectioned off the bedroom from the bathroom. They close snugly by themselves with just a thug, blocking ambient noise from the bathroom and outside aisle, thus improving sleep quality. Housekeeping was efficient, thorough and thoughtful too. They will leave turn-down sweets and lip balm during dry weather.

I was impressed by Japan's hospitality. Beautiful hotel with great staff service. There is a hot spring in the basement that you can bathe in in your swimsuit, and I had the best time with my wife.

Incredibly special experience the moment you pull into the hotel. Modern, clean vibes with graceful traditional touches and unmistakable Japanese elegance - the atmosphere and design choices throughout the hotel seemed very thoughtful and made my time there feel unique and actually luxurious. Comfortable beds, beautiful views, and luxuriously appointed bathrooms. A true 5-star experience!

Service was excellent and respectful, with a comfortable check-in process (during which they provided a much appreciated welcome tea and sweets). The breakfast was quite nice, and we enjoyed a delightful afternoon tea service as well.

The public bath in the basement was interesting - the atmosphere was a little dark, and I feel like the modern vibe they were going for went a little too far towards cold/sterile/mechanical rather than being warm/relaxing/inviting, as typically expected in a spa. They provide lockers and a bathing suit if needed, with plenty of towels and water bottles in the locker room and the actual co-ed bath area. The bath area itself was fine, being basically just one large pool, though it would’ve been nice to have a section with hotter and/or cooler water, since the whole bath/pool was all just moderately warm.

Still, the entire experience here was truly special and memorable, and I would absolutely not hesitate to return or recommend this to anyone looking for a luxurious, boutique-y feeling hotel that you likely can’t find anywhere else! This set a new bar for a 5-star hotel experience.

A stunning example of the incredible dedication to excellence the talented people of this region dedicate their lives to. Not only was our stay here magnificent, the region and people of Kyoto made our stay one to remember. Every inch of this property, new and old, feels cohesive and very intricately chosen. Our room was beyond comfortable with a new treat placed bedside every evening (I am still obsessed with the Matcha Lip balm). Every thoughtful touch was very much appreciated including the books on the shelves, robes, slippers, full closet with hangers, toiletries and the incredible in room bar.

We were lucky enough to be here for Sakura season and the grounds were stunning. I can not get over the incredible attention to detail, the friendly staff and accommodations. I will absolutely be returning as soon as I possibly can. Thank you.

My wife and I spent two weeks in Japan and enjoyed our time in Kyoto with a stay at Hotel The Mitsui. The hotel was absolutely beautiful, especially the large garden courtyard. The restaurants were both wonderful with one hosting a chefs tasting menu and the other offering an Italian style menu. The tasting menu was delicious, and although we did not have the Italian restaurant for any meals, the breakfast was great and offered both a Japanese and western style buffet. The staff were all fantastic, and the majority even spoke English well which was very helpful. They were very helpful with recommendations as well as calling taxi for us, as the hotel is a short taxi ride from many destinations. We rented the private onsen for 1 hour and thoroughly enjoyed the space, which included some lovely snacks and drinks as well. Overall, highly recommend this hotel for a luxury stay in Kyoto, Japan!

Very beautiful hotel! However location is far away from the temples and shrines you tend to visit. A bit sad that no Japanese food is served in the hotel
