One of the best things about our visit to Kyoto. :) it is a cozy place in Gion, ran by a really nice couple. Food was superb! Order the steak if you’d ever visit. We went twice because it is THAT good.

What an amazing find! After walking around Kyoto thinking we would need to take a second mortgage to eat a reasonable dinner, we found this beautiful small restaurant close to our hotel. Super friendly husband and wife operating with top notch food and fantastic prices. Everything we ordered was just perfect. Was so good we came back for dinner the following day. Highly recommended.

Great hidden spot with delicious okonomiyaki and teppanyaki food. The lovely couple was friendly and helpful. If you make an effort to try and speak a small amount of Japanese they will be very receptive.

This shop was ran by the sweetest old couple. They enjoy visiting with customers, and it was a truly memorable experience chopping it up with them while they prepped our food.
This was the only Okonomiyaki we had in Japan, so I don’t have much to compare it to, though me and my wife thoroughly enjoyed ours. We tried two different okonomiyaki, and we especially enjoyed the one with all the fixings. We thought the price was very fair as well.

A small intimate mom and pop style restaurant. We were greeted by kind smiles and clean atmosphere. Typically these style of restaurants are dirty but this one was spotless. The food was made with the utmost care and the chef put all his effort into it. A truly delicious meal for an insane value! Have to come back again when I visit Kyoto in the future. Gochisōsamadeshita! 🙏

We walked in here on a whim after not having any luck finding a table anywhere else and I'm glad we did. The place was small with not a lot of seating but we were able to get 2 seats at the bar. It's a mom and pop place it seemed. The lady would take orders and the guy would cook everything. And it all seemed prepared, chopped, cooked to order. We could see him prepping every. They speak very little English but still try to interact with you and will use Google translate if needed lol. They were super sweet people. My husband got the okonomiyaki and I got the tonpay. It was very good. And we left happy and full.

Even though there is a sign saying that please be patient foods might take long to cook, but it all served faster than expected. Every dishes I ordered was cooked beautifully in front of me by a very nice chef/owner. Lovely dining experience in Kyoto!

Important to note!
-cash only
-food takes time
-can get too full for them to manage and they may turn you away at that time
-beginner friendly English spoken, well enough to converse and understand

Solo:
Came here after exploring around at 6pm. They had just opened for the night so it was pretty quiet. Actually there was no one 😂 but don’t let that fool you because as the minutes and hour gradually passed, so many people came! Majority locals.

I would definitely recommend reserving a table ahead if you really wish to, otherwise when it gets full, they aren’t able to accommodate anymore till vacant. It’s operated only by an elderly couple and food is cooked on the spot after ordering so be patient :) I ordered the okonomiyaki along with this other kimchi pork dish, yum!

Lovely experience, would recommend and would go again!💖

Exceptional restaurant! Yummy food, great service and chefs!

Highly recommend their menu is extensive with lots of green to meat options. If you’re thirsty, I highly recommend the Craft Kyuoto Yuzu 👌👌👌

Absolute amazing hidden little gem tucked away in a quiet street.

- food was superb, specifically loved the steak, vegetable salad, cheesy potatoes and the sweet potato shrimp (which we ordered again)
- asahi on tap is a big tick
- service was so lovely, food is prepared in front of you and then served very well.
- the place is intimate and incredibly clean

Thank you for a very lovely and authentic experience.

The dining experience was phenomenal, and the food was spectacular. The couple running the restaurant are so sweet and accommodating. After you finish eating, they’ll chat with you about your stay which is good because the vibe in there is so loving and comfortable that you don’t want to leave! Note, you’ll need to stop by and make a reservation.

Believe the hype. This little spot is one of the best meals we've had in our so far week in Japan. The couple running it is lovely, welcoming, and so helpful. It's so good we're going back tomorrow!

Great owner and his wife, lovely space to hangout with your family and friends. Food might take a while to prepare but it’s 100% worth it.

Run by an elderly couple who are very hospitable and welcoming even though they have to resort to Google Translate to help foreigners communicate around. Seatings are limited to just 1 table and 9 seats in front of the teppanyaki counter so book at least 1 day in advance. The yakisoba is the best, okonomiyaki is the mainstay and also do try the other comfort dishes for a fulfilling and unforgettable dinner. Prices are very affordable they are almost baffling to have in Gion.

It’s a typical “Teppanyaki” counter style restaurant run by a very nice and sweet couple. We ate amazing Okonomiyaki and Yakisoba. Food was exceptional and service outstanding. Definitely to try for traditional Japanese Teppanyaki experience.

We had a lovely time at Gion Danran, it is a cozy teppanyaki restaurant run by a couple. The food was delicious - the beef is a must-have! The couple was very friendly and welcoming. The husband used a translation app to communicate with us through the meal to make sure we were satisfied with the food.

It’s usually fully booked, so try to call or email to make a reservation or head down to the restaurant to make a reservation for another day.

We stumbled upon this place one evening while searching for dinner and we feel like we've found a hidden gem in Kyoto. Not only was the food delicious, the husband and wife who own the place make you feel right at home with their warmth and kindness. We loved it so much we went back the next night. I would recommend making reservations right when they open or going late as it is a small restaurant with limited seating. We hope to come back again soon.

I cannot recommend this place more highly. What a gem! It's a small (~10person) teppanyaki restaurant that is immaculately clean with modern design run by a very friendly husband/wife team. The food is prepared in front of you and all of it was delicious (but my personal favorite was the pork okonomiyaki). Oh and it's very reasonably priced too! Best dinner in Kyoto.

So happy that our hotel concierge made us a reservation at this charming okonomiyaki place -- the food was great, but even more so the atmosphere was homey and the couple who ran it were so wonderful -- focused on their craft, but also pausing to interact with each customer using google translate on their phones, and sharing smiles and laughter and their pleasure in delivering a wonderful, simple dinner. We loved this spot!
