昭和43年に保存が困難な状況になった10基の山鉾を保存する為に建てられたのが祇園山鉾館です。
保存されているのは、木賊山・芦刈山・伯牙山・郭巨山・油天神山・太子山・浄妙山・黒主山・孟宗山・岩戸山です。

子供の頃に思ったこと～この建物が大きく不気味な静寂と共にこの場所にあり、何のための建物かも知らずに何か恐ろしいような気がいたしまして足早に通りすぎておりました…
大人になり、他の投稿者さまの仰せのような建物だと知り、この扉が開く日に私もその様子を拝ませていただきたく思いました。
