Looking for something unique I planned to go to Loutre during my stay in Kyoto. We were able to walk in around 5pm on Sunday and be able to use the cafe instantly.

The otters all had different personalities, some were more shy and others were very playful. The staff were amazing, they initiated play but let the otters take over, occasionally giving us snacks and instructing us on how to feed these friends.

I also noticed the great care and compassion they had for the otters. Some of the otters definitely had a favorite staff member, running to and curling up with them. They also knew much of the otter dynamics, pulling up a screen when certain otters were in the play area because they knew their sibling would be jealous of the attention visitors would give them.

Overall a very nice place to visit if you’re a fan of otters, would highly recommend.

The otters are incredibly cute and the staff was very sweet. These otters are the pets of the owner and you get to feel the special bond between them. Preferably book in advance or pop in when they open up to book a time later that day as the place is quite busy. Well worth the cost in my opinion.

Loved loved loved loutre otter cafe❤ Otters were amazing, loved spending time with them! They take really good care of them.. staff was really nice.
Just note that there’s just one otter at a time, and i don’t know if there’s a limited amount of persona inside cause at one moment we were literally like 10 persona sitting and just one otter so you get te play and touch them less

The otters are so cute! It is different from a cafe, you don't get food, you pay for an hour of time with the otters. You can touch them, feed them, play with them, and take pictures! Depending on which otter happens to be in your time, one you can only touch the back, one anywhere is good. If you follow them on YouTube, you get a suverniour picture.

Otters were super cute and staff was very friendly. They helped to make sure all guests had a fun time and everyone was able to interact with the otters

After hearing the story of the owner and her pet otters and how raised them from little babies makes me so proud of her.

The experience we had with six people was so pleasant we got to play with wasabi and age-chan and feed them snacks. You can tell that the owner really cares for her kids.

Great experience feeding and playing with the otters. We were hesitant at first because of a few negative reviews we saw but are glad we went to see for ourselves after. The otters seemed to be very well taken care of. We could barely get a picture of wasabi because she was so full of energy running from person to person grabbing snackies and playing with toys. The other otter was more relaxed and very attached to the staff that were there. He kept trying to cuddle with her and nap but it was good to see that they love their caretakers. There were another two otters that we didn't interact with, but that was because they were busy making babies.. which they were not shy about. Lol. If you hear weird noises it's probably from these lovebirds.

The otters were adorable. They're very energetic and the woman in charge was helpful and explained everything about the otters so that no accidents would happen. You get to feed the otters, give them water, pet and play with them etc.

Had an amazing time. These otters are awesome and I love their spirits. Will say though that the otter weren’t approaching everyone. So if you coming in thinking you are gonna get a bunch of 1 on 1 time with the otter you are mistaken.

I had a fantastic time at the otter cafe. My group met two otters, including a playful two year old named Wasabi. The staff clearly cared about the otters and lot and they erected clear with our group about how to interact with them to make sure they were comfortable. Check it out if you’re in Kyoto!

Had a great time here! The smell is strong when you walk in. Air purifier would be a nice touch. The otters are adorable! The owner of the cafe can speak English.

It was nice to know all the otters in her shop are her pets and she takes them home at the end of each day changes them on rotation.

We followed her YouTube channel too where she takes the otters out into lakes which is so nice that the have that sort of life.

My husband and I went here on a “walk in reservation” if you show up around 4 pm you will not get a reservation for the day. So come right in as they open to make one. It is small and we sat on the floor. The otters seemed really happy though. We got to play, feed, and pet the otters. The owner made sure everyone got a turn.

While the room was small it does not seem like this is where the otters stay 24/7 which is good to know. The store is only open from 2 pm to 6 pm. I think my favorite part was the otters could call it quits when they wanted to. So we ended up seeing 3 different otters.

Nami was out the longest but only went back because Bob was starting to miss her (her boyfriend) The second one I forget their name was only interested in being fed by people, and then wanted to go back inside. Wasabi which was the most energetic really enjoyed playing with the customers in our lot.

This was a really fun and unique experience, however if you are remotely any sort of intense animal lover I don’t recommend any animal cafes. All of the animal cafes in Japan are small/cramped feeling. However I will say out of all the ones I’ve been to, this one was one of the cleaner ones and the otters seemed well loved and treated.

Must visit! Clean, affordable and so much fun. A dream of mine come true. The otters seem very well cared for. You can tell the owner cares about them a lot and they definitely love her. The otters are sweet and so playful. You can pet them, feed them, give them water from a bottle, and play with them. Owner speaks a fair amount of English as well. Loved this cafe, miss it already!

The cutest otters ever!!! Had a great time, but wondered if it’s okay to keep them in small indoor space. Other than that, otters are super cute! I might have taken more photos at the cafe than around the entire city of Kyoto 😂

When I visited the cafe all the otters seemed well taken care of and the owner seemed to really love her otters. She explained that she had 2 Jobs prior to having the cafe. She had no time to properly provide for her otters. So she opened the cafe and quit her jobs to be around her otters more. She makes sure to rotate the otters out so that they don't get overwhelmed. She takes the otters home at night. She even had a youtube channel to show what they do outside of work hours. She seems to really love her otters and does everything she can to make them happy. While you are there she will show you the otters likes and dislikes. So you know how to properly pet them. We petted them very gently with 2 fingers as she showed us to. Other than that we watched them play until they took a nap. I would highly recommend this cafe!

We were here on 31.11.2023 for the second time (first visit was back in 2019) and we loved it! You can feed the animals (food and drink), carefully pet them (some don't like to be touched while eating, some don't mind) and play with them with the help of different toys. The animals were super energetic, running around, eating, drinking...some more running xD We had the chance to see two different animals, since one was tired after some time and wanted to go to bed. Their fur is super soft and warm and the feet feel funny xD It's so sweet, watching them grab the food out of your hands!

If you love otters then you have to go and visit this otter cafe. We met Wasabi and she was full of energy! The staff spoke very good English and had translators for those who didn’t. We really enjoyed our time playing with all the otters.

The otters here are so cute and playful, and filled with so much energy! They are fairly loud and the noise is off putting at first, but they are actually so adorable and interactive with the guests. Book ahead of time as they are strict with limiting the amount of guests, time, and space for the otters.

Underrated spot compared to other “animal cafes” that do not seem to care as much about the animals’ well being. I continue to follow their social media and look forward to my next visit back!
