Great walking streets with hundreds of shops and restaurants. If you walk further out of the main alley you’d see a more of a local in just a turn away.
A side note :
- most of the restaurants / shops closes around 8 pm unless they’re izakaya/ drinking restaurant.
- like every other parts in Japan, the good / famous ones will come with a long queue so with the first side note you’d better plan your dinner right and early if you want to hit the best spot.

Traditional Japanese old street market in Osaka that must be visited by all tourists. The Shinsekai Market reflects on the olden days of Osaka, and some of the shops here still carry that nostalgic experience.

The market is less than a kilometre long but showcases a part of Osaka that is hard to see nowadays. It was truly a wonderful experience of walking here, seeing the simple way of life. Location is minutes from Tsutenkaku Tower.

Beautiful old style market and the road next to it with restaurants and various attractions. Unfortunately the day we came most of things were closed so we couldn't see and explore much but it was beautiful nonetheless.

I really enjoyed this part of the city, full of life with a lot of stores and restaurants and with the amazing view of the osaka tower.
This is a must if you visit Osaka

A shopping street that's very popular with tourists. Very crowded and lively. Beside Tsutenkaku Tower and the Shin-Imamiya JR Station.

If you're into architecture, building design and variety of food.. can drop by Shisekai during your next visit. Very convenient to take public transportation to here

Fun shopping and eating district! Can't go wrong in finding all the yummy Osaka foods here! Lots of restaurants have multiple language menus! Recommend area to enjoy the food nightlife!

Great area for food and souvenir shopping! The magnets I found here were super cute and affordable and found my favorite takoyaki stall here (only 400yen for 8 juicy pieces). I visited at day but at night is probably even better. Recommended!

The overall Shinsekai area was a lot quieter than I thought it would be, having come here in 2018 pre-Covid. Some food places/cafes still open so you will be fine food-wise here. Maybe busier at nighttime as we visited during the afternoon. (Edit: I think the street along the front-view of the tower is much busier! We came in through the back left walkway from Ebisucho Station so keep that in mind if you come!)

The tower itself is fun, a nice little tourist attraction going over some history of GLICO in between some floors and lovely views of Osaka from the higher floors. We came here with free entry with the Osaka Amazing Pass which gave free access to the Tower as well as the Slide.

The Slide was really fun, recommend it. Comes with free Coin Locker access to put your stuff into whilst you go up to the second floor to slide down from. Not much of a wait when we went (around 3-4pm).

Most of the stores will open at 11am onwards. If you really want to experience shinsekai, please visit in the late afternoon onwards. Went on 12pm to avoid crowd and squeezy walking area.

To be honest, walking for 2hours and everything felt similar at every corner. Food was amazing as well, had fritters buffet for 1650yen per pax instead of paying 100-300yen per stick

An alternative spot other than Dotonbori

Not as big as Dotonbori and does not offer as many snacks to try but their large, colorful and cute signboards make it the perfect backdrop for the typical Osaka street photography! Heard that it is the place to try deep fried skewers but din’t manage to have any as I had lunch prior to visiting.

Lots of souvenir shops with reasonable price. If you're good at haggling, you can get an even better deal. Most of the shopkeepers are very helpful and they speak english.
