清水町家（Kiyomizu Samurai Machiya)

You can't find a better place in Kyoto. This is a cozy, charming historic house with great attention to details. It is close to everything - you can walk to many locations. The host (Akiko) is amazing! I highly recommend this place!

It was nice. Peaceful.

A fabulous, well-located, gorgeous house that is let down by management.
The good: the house is extremely well-equipped and uniquely decorated. It's clear that care and thought has gone into its set-up. The location is fantastic for discovering Kyoto, and quiet enough to provide a comfortable escape. The use of the space is clever, the kitchen is well-stocked with utensils, and the beds and futons comfortable.
The disappointing: We were given directions to a completely different house, and spent a frustrating half-hour trying to find the wrong house and trying to get the correct directions. Additionally, we chose accommodation with a washing machine specifically so we could pack lightly and wash clothes halfway through our trip. The washing machine stopped and showed an error the first time we used it, which we reported to management immediately, as per instructions in the house. The office told us it would be fixed the following day, but nobody came to help - when we followed up they assured us they would send someone, but never did. A shame, as managed properly this would be a much better review.
