Shinshindo - Sanjo Kawaramachi

First we bought pastries to go and found the croissant super tasty. We then came in to enjoy lunch another day. Even the French fries taste so much better and more crisp! The puff ice cream is also delicious and royal milk tea is a must-have.

Another delicious bakery in Kyoto with so many options. I got the glazed donut and it was amazing. Similar to Krispy Kreme, but infinitely better. You can tell it was freshly baked. There is also a bathroom which is very convenient. I’d definitely come back to try something else while I’m here. They accept card payments, but physical card only and not “touch”. So make sure you have a physical card or cash when paying.

Shinshindo in Kyoto offers a satisfying breakfast experience in a comfortable setting. The menu isn't overly extensive, but what they do offer is executed well. The scrambled eggs with bacon were great—fluffy eggs paired with crispy bacon, making for a solid start to the day.

However, it was the French toast that truly stood out. Superbly done, it struck the right balance between crispiness and fluffiness, elevating the overall breakfast experience.

Service was prompt and unobtrusive, aligning with the incredible ambiance of the place. If you find yourself in Kyoto and are looking for a spot to enjoy a quality breakfast, Shinshindo is a reliable choice.

During my stay in Kyoto, I had 3 out of my 4 breakfast here. Shinshindo is a few minutes walk from the hotel and it opens early. There’s always a line when they open at 7:30am. Great spot for an early breakfast before heading out for sightseeing. They have a variety of breakfast options ranging between ¥1000 to ¥2300 and unlimited coffee refill.
If you’d prefer the pastries over the menu items, you can buy them and dine in.

Such a great bakery! There are certain hours (around noon) that you cannot eat the pastries there, just take out, but that was fine for us. Would definitely go back!

Good place for breakfast. Good stuff, good food and good service. Price is reasonable. Coffee can be refilled and bread can be added , like back to U.S. 😄

I was introduced this place as one of the best bakeries In Kyoto and it was totally true! I had breakfast menu in which they offer unlimited bread and the bread was so awesome!! The workers were so kind and keep checking us to see if we need more bread. Defo would recommend ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

I went to the takeaway side of this boulangerie and the selection was huge and the three items we ate were almost as good as something you would expect to eat in France. The value proposition is unbeatable here. Three items of high quality for ¥900 is incredible

We had a very good experience here! Staff is nice, speaks English, there's an English menu available. The place is quiet and peaceful. The food is very well presented, they had an autumn themed menu when we were there, it was so good! A bit up in price from your regular restaurant, but absolutely worth it!

Very good products, very tasty, the pain perdu was one of the best I ever eat. We were very well received. Approved by frenchies !

Super delicious bakery! Sweet and savory with a variety of flavors and many savory vegetarian options which I was excited to try. The line for take away can get long so go early and get your baked goods for the day when they first come out of the oven in the morning

Excellent bakery / restaurant, very western Europe setting menu in a US environment but in Kyoto! And great staff. Indulge in baked goods, pay, then enjoy at a table with comfortable chairs with coffee and tea. Its an understated, welcoming pleasant place.

Its the best, ever!
Too bad we didnt get the chance to try their no 4 best selller, custard cream bread.
Its sold out every night except on our first day there. Regret we didnt buy it then.

Love this bakery. High quality. Every item is cheap, fresh and delicious. Highly recommend to try. Open at 7:30 am, which is a down side if you want to start your day early to beat the crowds in places to go.
Too many people come in and out. Be careful if you are buying multiple pastries which are placed on the counter where another customer is also checking out, may grab yours item and you may not know till later.

If you want something a little bit more fancy than a regular 500-yen breakfast in Doutur or Tully’s, try this respectable cafe with a long history. You can get the “premium breakfast” for 1300 yen or the “special breakfast” for as much as 850 yen or just grab a cup of coffee or a plate of minestrone for your breakfast.

The ham steak tastes good. It’s satisfying to refill coffee and bread. Both service and environment are good here.

Excellent pastries and cakes, Japanese-French style. I was sorry we never had time to sit down at the restaurant area. We always needed a quick bite before we head to the popular attractions but would come back here to get a few more items before we return to our hotel in the evenings.

Had to wait to be seated both times we came. Worth the wait as we were craving for some western breakfast after a week of Japanese food. Croissant was fluffy and delicious! Recommended

The bakery and the cafe are two separate businesses but are symbiotic.

Various options for breakfast in the seating area. Staff is very friendly and the service really fast. The shop offers a big variety of breads, donuts and rolls, sweet and salty. Wonderful taste, more European style. Perfect start for a long sightseeing day.
