Ishibekoji MUAN

I stayed here during a weekend trip in Kyoto in the autumn, and it was lovely. I stayed here in a group of nine. There are only three rooms here, so we had the whole place to ourselves.

Service was exceptional. Rooms were cleaned daily around 10 am, and water and other amenities were provided daily.

Breakfast can be purchased, but let them know the day before by 7pm! They need to coordinate with a restaurant. The next morning at an agreed upon time, they will serve breakfast in your rooms.

It is a bit difficult to find, and it is a lot of walking to get to places in the area. But the area is beautiful and the service was worth it.

We would love to stay here again in the future.

The place is a bit hard to find because it is located inside a small alley. We booked for 2 nights here in early December 2023 and got a KIYOHIRA room,once enter the room, it was over our expectation the room itself remains a Japanese style with great facilities like temp. control system (even the Tatami) We were so delighted that we don't want to leave the room. the bathroom here also have a temp. control not just water but the floor too. Great place to stay if you need "Peace in Japanese vibe"

PS: The staff name "Shin" is cute.

A great traditional Japanese ryokan with a touch of modern western hotel. We booked the room on the first floor that with futons. Super big room, we have two biggest size suitcases and still got a lot of room to roam around. The bathroom is equipped with an automatic toilet and hot tub - with one single button the tub will fill and maintain the configured temperature. The staffs are friendly and understand multiple languages. The location is also perfect - 5 min walk to Gion and 10 min to Ninenzaka. So you have a choice to explore these two places in early morning to avoid the crowd and also exploring at night to get a super unique feeling. Not to mention the bus station and convenience store is just 2 block away on the main road. We booked breakfast on our last day and it was served in our room. With the view to the small inner garden and a full set of Japanese style meal that concludes our trip to Kyoto this time with very high satisfaction.

If you have the opportunity to stay here you will not be disappointed! We unfortunately were only able to stay 1 night in the Haganami room. It is the tradition Ryokan way to stay. Had we known how perfect this place was we would have planned on staying here for our entire stay in Kyoto!

First and foremost the place has an incredible zen like feel to it. It is EXTREMELY clean and tidy.

But what makes this the best place to stay in Kyoto is the staff! Sae took amazing care of us while we were here. She walked us through everything and went above and beyond for us. She even thought us how to make oragami cranes! She knows English very well and can have a wonderful conversation. I have never been treated this well at any hotel in my 15 years of traveling.

What a wonderful place! I can’t wait to come back with more family and friends to have them experience the same!

This is a gorgeous ryokan. The location was perfect for us since we wanted to stay near the Gion district. The building is located on a quiet, scenic street, which was exactly what we wanted.

After a long day of walking around Kyoto and visiting shrines, I found myself taking multiple baths a day and soaking my aching feet in the beautiful hinoki cypress bathtub.

I highly recommend staying here and plan to book a room again in the future.

Staying at Ishibekoji MUAN was an experience that left us wishing we had booked more nights at this remarkable Ryokan in the Gion district. The rooms perfectly embodied our expectations, blending traditional elements seamlessly while maintaining impeccable cleanliness and an aura of genuine comfort.

An oversight on our part was the realization that a kaiseki dinner was not included which was something we really wanted to do. However, the staff, who were both friendly and attentive, went above and beyond, assisting us in finding the right dining spot.

One of the highlights of our stay was the exploration of Gion at night once most of the rest of the tourists have left. With Yasaka Shrine just a short five-minute stroll away, waling around the template of night is when the lanterns lining the paths come to life, creating a breathtakingly picturesque scene—a moment we captured in one of the most memorable photos of our time in Kyoto.

If you are thinking of staying here just for a couple of nights, reconsider adding a few more as you will wish you had.

We had an incredible stay here. The location is perfect, on a picturesque, quintessential Kyoto street, a short walk from major sights. The staff was so lively and helpful and made us feel at home. The bathroom is incredible! I can’t imagine staying elsewhere in Kyoto.

This is a beautiful, luxurious hotel that feels like a home. The staff members were very friendly. They spoke English, so it was really easy to understand the hotel facilities and the sightseeing recommendations.

We were already at awe at the picturesque location before arriving at the hotel doorsteps. Stepping through the doors, this hotel is definitely unlike any other and matches Kyoto’s traditional and modern vibes.

We stayed in the Hanami room, which was so spacious one could probably practice yoga in there. The room itself had a traditional feel to it, while the bathroom was modern (I enjoyed trying the Dyson hairdryer, hot bath, bidet, heated flooring, etc.).

All the products they provide (makeup remover, face wash, toothbrush + paste, etc.) were top quality in ingredients and appearance. I particularly loved the Aesop shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I’ve always wanted to try them and was not disappointed.

I wish we could stay longer, but we were only in Kyoto for the weekend. I would definitely stay again and recommend this hotel to anyone.

My wife and I had a fantastic stay! We were encountered with incredible hospitality by Jungmi who welcomed us in and gave us useful tips for the area. I would encourage people who want to stay in a uniquely Japanese hotel/Ryokan stay here. Well priced, amazingly equipped room (that bathroom!), friendly service, fantastic location in Kyoto!

The entire experience was fantastic from start to finish. The hosts treated us like old friends and welcomed us with a refreshing drink on the house - definitely recommend the ginger tea made fresh in house!! We chatted comfortably before the hosts showed us to our gorgeous room - the Hanami room. We were astounded by the room overall and the attention to detail. The room promoted the historic Kyoto feel with the samurai armor, the futons, and the living area whilst still incorporating a modern feel. The bathroom especially wowed us. With underfloor heating and that gorgeous bath.. seriously, take advantage of that bath!! We stayed in there for at least an hour and a half after experiencing what Kyoto had to offer. Then the hosts gave us some recommendations of what to do in the area and showed us the ins and outs of the hotel and then let us be. A perfect balance of hospitality and professionalism. The location itself is fantastic. Close to the historical Gion, the lively Kawaramachi, and easy to access lots of temples and shrines whilst not being out of the way. There’s a couple of convenience stores just 3-5 minutes from the hotel which boasted very well for the midnight munchies. Though, the hotel room has a mini bar with refreshments at a competitive price. Whilst Kyoto was great - as always - we couldn’t wait to settle down that night in our amazing room. Though we didn’t need any assistance during our stay, the staff were available 24/7 and all can speak English very well. I slept like a log and then woke up to the free coffee and tea in our room. I would stay again 100% and next time I hope to take advantage of the in-house hotel bar.

Ishibekoji MUAN is a lovely little ryokan (Japanese traditional inn) situated in the heart of Kyoto. Furnished in traditional Japanese style, with antiques throughout, yet offering all of the modern day amenities one could want. It is family friendly and can accommodate single visitors as well as large families and or groups. Its central location offers easy access to all of the Kyoto hot spots by foot, just minutes away. It has a fully stocked bar and an excellent selection of whiskey, from domestic to foreign. It is unexpectedly quiet at night and in the morning, considering its location which makes it a perfect place to stay. Short as well as longer term stay is available. Most of all the staff and the service they offer is excellent, par none. The staff is multilingual and provides services in English, Korean, Chinese and of course Japanese which offers a piece of mind. They were very helpful with Kyoto navigation. A complimentary ticket to Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art was also provided. All in all, highly recommended if you're planning on visiting and staying in Kyoto.

Absolutely lovely, peaceful, friendly place to stay. It is strong into the exotic Japan that one bears about in movies. They have us a very pleasant stay.

This is one of the nicest places I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying. Everything was top class. Worth it for the Hinoki bath alone. Ishibekoji is an absolutely charming little nook with great access to some of the best sites in Kyoto. Very friendly staff and I will definitely be back next time I stay in Kyoto.

A luxury hotel, Kyoto feeling, Japanese style experience. I recommend anyone staying in Japan to stay here. Located right in the middle of all things Kyoto. Stations are close, temples and shrines closer. Love this place

It's a little far from the station, but the rooms and service were divine.

El hotel es genial muy autentico y tradicional pero a la vez es moderno y cuenta con todas las comodidades tecnologicas. El servicio es de 10, te ayudan con todo lo que necesites y estan siempre disponibles para recibirte al llegar y hacerte un te y darte conversacion, son muy amables. Sin duda lo recomiendo y volvere a hospedarme aqui cuando vuelva a Kyoto.

호텔규모에 비해서 방이 매우 넓다.

시설도 깨끗하고 룸 시설, 어메니티 모두 최고입니다.

다만, 택시로 찾아갈 때 골목 안에 있어서
기사님이 잘모르는 것 같아 근처 큰 건물로 알려드리고 가야할 것 같습니다.

이번에는 겨우 하루 묵었는데 다음에는 좀 길게 다시 가고 싶은 곳입니다.

교토에서 머무신다면 정말 추천하고싶은 곳이에요.
고즈넉하고, 조용하면서 시설 깔끔하고 위치적으로 손색이 없습니다.
도보로 가능한 거리에 유명한 곳들이 다 있기 때문에 산책하듯이 관광지나 카페, 맛집을 다닐 수가 있었어요.
어메니티는 전부 aesop, dyson 공기청정기, 드라이어까지 구비되었습니다.
침구류, 편하게 쉴 수 있는 공간까지 완벽했구요.
안에 작은 히노끼탕이 있기때문에 많이 걷고 와서 부은 다리와 발을 담구고 반신욕하면 진짜 천국이 따로 없습니다.
무엇보다 숙소 직원 분들의 서비스가 정말 친절하셨어요.
특히 Jungmi 매니저님의 환대와 많은 도움으로 이번 교토 여행이 너무나 풍부하고, 행복한 경험이 되었습니다.
추천해주신 맛집과 카페도 정말 훌륭했고, 이렇게 친절하셨던 분은 10년 넘게 여행하면서 처음이었던 것 같아요.
