Towadako Backpackers

The hostel is run by a very nice grandma. The check-in is usually until 9pm. I called her to say that I cannot reach before 11pm. She said no problem. She arranged for the keys before she went for bed. I went picked up the keys and slept.

There was American style morning breakfast (bread butter, jam, milk and cereal). She told me at 945am that she is going for work (didn't ask me to leave). I gave her my key and left.

The house itself is quite amazing. The drive here was scary at night as this place is literally in the middle of a forest.

Very sweet family operating this hotel. Bed was very cosy, food was good and the central hall felt very homely. Went solo in mid-May and there was really no other backpacker there, so not sure if it's the best place to find fellow hikers. Close to the lake and a nice road if you like running or biking.

Since the buses to leave don't come often, the dad offered to drive me to Hirosaki for a very reasonable price. Thanks for that!

The lovely old lady and her husband(?) who runs this backpackers are very friendly and accommodating, especially if you can speak a little Japanese. Breakfast is provided every morning (scrambled eggs, toast, cereal, tea, coffee) for FREE!
They will also provide dinner if you let them know in advance for a fee of ¥1000. The bathroom facilities are the only letdown - functional and clean, but basic. However there are 2 hotels with nice public baths within walking distance.
Well worth it.

A clean and quiet hostel also the staff was friendly. Although the building was a bit old in age, the location was convenient as it locating at the end of the main street. Also the kitchen was free to use, you can cook your dinner while they provide complimentary simple breakfast for fee.

A wonderful place to stay while visiting Towadako and the Oirase gorge. It's a short walk from the JR Bus station, there's a really nice hotel onsen (that you can use for ¥500) practically next door, and there's good amenities like free rental bikes and kitchens. The rooms were comfortable, dinner was delicious, and the owner was very kind and accommodating. I would 100% stay here again. (And the prices are good, too!)

Arrived after a day of pouring rain and the hosts took great pains to ensure all our dripping gear was dried by the following morning. Really appreciated their efforts. We received a warm welcome and a great double room for 2 very saturated cyclists.

Hoteliers are friendly and Rooms are very traditional but comfortable. I had a very cozy sleep. They provide homemade dinner of beef curry that is very delicious. Worthy a night here.

After battling the hills from Hirosaki to here , it was a relief to have a hot shower and meet the owners. Dinner for the evening was a simple but filling curry at Yen 600 with soup and salad. The night was windy wet and freezing but with the aircon on and snuggled under the doona I slept well. Nice place , I can see it being busy peak season for a number of reasons.

¥2500 includes breakfast, eggs and toast. Dinner is ¥600 for curry or ¥1000 for beef.

Nice location and the guesthouse is lovely. The owner family is nice and friendly. Dinners are tasty too.

I didn't stay here, but the friendly manager let me borrow one of the hostel's bicycles for the day.
