Demachi Masugata Shopping Street

Visited to celebrate Tamako Market's 10th anniversary. I believe the local theatre is doing a special airing to celebrate. Very nostalgic walking through the market listening to "Dramatic Market Ride" and "Neguse".

Happy to report that the correspondence notebook is still there. It was right next to the western entrance when I visited.

Visited a few stores and of course bought mochi. Overall a very positive experience.

A good place to find good food. There are several places to sell 果子

This shopping arcade is full of local colour. Look out for the paintings and sketches of the shopkeepers the students of the nearby art university have drawn. Each stall has a different one.

It used to be where Kyoto’s seafood would arrive from Obama town in Northern Kyoto, so there’s a huge katsuo (skipjack tuna) hanging from the ceiling to commemorate that.

These days there are fewer fishmongers, but there is still a very colourful fruit stall, butchers, vegetable stands, donut shops, and two bookstores which are a destination in themselves.

My first mall experience in Japan and it's lovely. There's claw games and cool shops, and the food court is amazing. We got curry at Ranchos Kitchen, and ramen and karaage. Karaage came with lemon and tartar sauce.

Foods and goods market, old business mans are very kind and friendly. Good place for shop freely.

For residents, this market has all you need from 100 yen store , two groceries, fruits, bento, flowers, to cheap housewhole goods. It is also near the populat Futaba mochi shop.
For visitors, it is worth seeing and trying some food there: karaage, Ajari mochi, Futaba mochi, tofu etc.
I visit Kyoto almost every year and stay for a couple of weeks at least, I go there every time.

Local Street that famous anime tamako market adapted from. Personally I think a lot of relatively affordable grocery available here. I got several used fairytale books that still in great condition

Away from the tourists. It has many cool and cute local stores with specialty items.

Like going back in time. Worth a visit.
