The Church of the Apostles is an ancient Byzantine church located in the city of Madaba in Jordan. It is one of the most important and oldest churches in the city. It was founded in 578, and was discovered in 1902. Father Manfredi discovered the church, and he read the dedication writing through which he determined the name of Bishop Sergius, the name of the church and the date of its construction. It is a building consisting of three galleries and two small churches on the north side. The mosaic floor inside the church preserves the product of what was done by the mosaic artist Salman from Hasban, whose name is located in the middle circle in the church’s nave, which represents the identification of the sea represented in the form of a woman emerging from the water among fish and marine animals
The current building that covers the church was designed and executed by architect Ammar Khamash. The building was restored in 1993 with the support of the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the American Center for Oriental Research.

Very small church with an amazing byzantine mosaic. Included in you Madaba Tourist Pass

Entry with Jordan pass. This 6th century church has an unusual architectural style, almost dome-like. The mosaics here are amazingly intricate and well preserved. The guard is most helpful.

Beautiful tourist area

Has lot of history and old mossic paintings. The person at the gate took photos for us as it was being renovated, very kind of him.

Another place with astonishing mosaics. They are nearly as great as those at Nebo Mountain. Try to go there if you are near Madaba.
