Cost is 1Jod and Jordan Pass is not included.
However it is worth it.
At the front of the church, pay attention to the mosaic above the front door of St John's head and the Roman columns.
The treasure is under the church and follow the sign "main entrance" and not enter the church. You should follow the stairs down until you see the museum. (not the tunnel).
Inside, you will see the mosaic as well as the 5000 year old well which is still in operation as well as the Statue of St John's head.
There are stairs going up to the Bell Tower. It's about 5 stories high but the stairs becomes narrower and ladder like. If you are scared of height or narrow space, maybe you should skip this.

I recently visited St. John the Baptist Church in Madaba, and as a Muslim, I was truly moved by the experience. The intricate mosaics and rich history of the church provide a unique glimpse into the region's cultural and religious heritage.

The artistry of the mosaics is awe-inspiring, each piece telling a story that transcends religious boundaries. The craftsmanship and attention to detail showcase a shared human history, and I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of appreciation for the dedication that went into creating such masterpieces.

The atmosphere within the church is serene, offering a space for reflection and contemplation. As a Muslim, I felt a profound connection to the spiritual energy of the place, recognizing the common threads that bind our diverse faiths. The respect and admiration for the shared values of love, compassion, and peace were palpable.

Moreover, the warm welcome extended by the church staff and fellow visitors reinforced the sense of unity among people of different backgrounds. It's a testament to the power of religious sites to foster understanding and bridge gaps between communities.

St. John the Baptist Church in Madaba stands as a testament to the rich tapestry of religious and cultural diversity in the region. I encourage everyone, regardless of their faith, to visit and appreciate the beauty that transcends religious boundaries, fostering a sense of harmony and mutual respect.

A very pleasant find and completely empty vs the other popular ones in the city. There is an entrance fee but the whole place was so well kept and nicely done up I think it was worth. The underground network of tunnels and rooms were very interesting and surprisingly extensive considering the church isn’t really that big when we looked at it from the outside. My favorite was the view from the bell tower. It’s an interesting climb up to the top where you can walk around to have a view on all sides but via a super narrow walkway.

It's worth the 1JD to enter. Includes the church, bell tower, and tunnels under the church.
Tour done with Jett, Amman , Madaba , Mt Nebo, and Bethany, runs every Friday and Sunday. Good drivers with ample time at each stop.

Very beautiful church with a peaceful atmosphere. The ancient underground portion is very interesting and include a Moabite well, Byzantine and Ottoman remains, and remains of ancient pottery. The climb to the top of the tower is worth the view, but is only possible for the young and agile.

Such a multifaceted church, museum, and archeological site. Not only does this place have great historical significance, but it is a living place where people can learn, worship, or marvel. I enjoyed the underground passages and the bell tower most of all. If in Madaba, St. Johns Church is a definite must-see.

It was a wonderful experience visiting this church. The staff here was also very helpful. The church complex is small but beautiful. For us, the exciting parts of the experience were - the climb to the bell tower and the descent into the acropolis. The bell tower climb using stairs is not very difficult and the views from the top are amazing. The underground acropolis is chilly but an interesting experience - there are lot of beautiful mosaics, artefacts and a lot of history. The church building itself is big and sparsely decorated.

Very beautiful place, the church in itself is not very interesting but the visit of the tunnels and the view from the bell tower are incredible. A must do when you are in Madaba.

It's a beautiful church. You can visit the tunnels from the Byzantine era. Do try going up to the clock tower, even though the ladders might be scary.

Better experience to visit this church than he more famous St. George mainly thanks to Nader who is very engaging and knowledgeable not only about the church but the history of Madaba and Jordan as a whole.
I threw many questions of random topics and he was quite patient to answer them all.
The church itself is quite beautiful and the mosaics inside are quite stunning.

This was recommended to us by the visitor center employee and worth the little walk uphill to see from the St. George church. The employee was very informative and friendly. The pictures in the check in were great and they have a Mosaic they moved to this location. We climbed all the way to the top of the Bell tower and if you are scared of heights or steep steps/ladder like stairs then it might not be for you but worth it. Great views from the top. Lots of graffiti throughout the tunnel and in the bells. Don't miss going to the basement to see the tunnels and shrine. They still hold worship services there. Cost 1jd/person, kids free.
