Trattoria Da Ubaldo

Be prepared for nothing like you’ve ever experienced before. The owner, chef and staff are a well oiled machine and clearly have a passion for what they do. Blasting Depeche Mode and Red Hot Chili Peppers they accommodate everything from hamburgers to roast pork with gnocchi Gorgonzola that is from the heavens above. Perfectly balanced and expert sauce. The eggplant parmigiana and chicken cacciatore were beautiful as well. An experience I will never forget from the tattoos to the lovely decorations and let’s not forget the piercings but this place is full of love and is loved. In Italy there is no tipping but I watched how hard everyone works and the food was amazing so I was happy to pretend I was home in NYC and gave them a nice tip. Oh and last but not least such an incredible value. We had a bottle of really nice white wine for TEN EUROS. MIC DROP!!

We found this little place via a travel blog and what a great little find it was. We came here twice during our stay in Lucca and loved it each time. The decor is very eclectic and seems to be based around phallic symbols, the odd and curious 😆 The food was gorgeous. I had pasta with chilli, garlic and tomato’s which was just fab. Also the limoncello sorbet was to die for, especially in the 35 degree heat. They only do 2 wines, red or white. They bring a bottle which costs €10 but you only pay for what you drink. Service and staff were great and I would totally recommend you visit here. Can’t wait to go back next year.

I lived in Lucca for a year, back in 2015. Trattoria da Ubaldo was and is my favourite restaurant, hands down. Can you get better food somewhere else? Absolutely. BUT! The food is really good (you really can't get bad food in Lucca), and you absolutely will not find more fun and entertaining atmosphere in Lucca, trust me on this. Ask the server to explain the name of the house wine and dessert, for instance 😉. Salute and grazie mille for many great meals, Ubaldo!

A unique experience that was very much appreciated! The inside has quite a lot of character, and is very different than most places you'll visit in Lucca. Our waiter was kind, helpful, and very funny! The food we had (meat/cheese platter and vegetable soup) was amazing, and we couldn't be more full or happy upon leaving! We also quote enjoyed the house IPA beer!

Outstanding tortellini and a very well cooked beef stake made our visit to Ubaldo a real unique experience. Furthermore, we really liked the restaurant's system with respect to the house wine where they put a bottle on each table and you just pay as much as you drink. Priced at 10 Euros per bottle the red house wine is definitely not a bad choice and goes well with pasta and meat. Service was also quick and friendly with good English. Although the whole restaurant makes a laid back impression, everyone does their job highly professionally.

Our best meal in Lucca! I recommend the roast pork ribs with roasted potatoes! We also ordered the fresh made tortelli with smoked cheese, bacon and zucchini and loved that too. The ribs and potatoes were seasoned really well and packed with flavor. The owner has a fun cool presence and the decorations inside are worth a few photos. We loved it here.

Quirky place with classic Italian food and not-so-classic decor. The staff were welcoming and the service was excellent. Delicious Italian food and cold beer and wine, what more can you ask for?

Great restaurant. The food was really good and lots of choice at a reasonable price, the wine was alright but not great. The restaurant has a Gothic/punk theme with lots of skulls and decorations on the walls and roof. It's in a nice location near the amphitheatre square. It is a bit hard to find first time if you don't know your way around.

Very strange but very tasty Meat Restaurant in Lucca. They have high quality pasta, and a lot of starters. Beef and Pork, in different kinds. A lot of grill. If You like red wine, You can ask a bottle of “Rossobastardo”. This amazing wine from Umbria will help You to eat their huge portions. The list of Desserts is also amazing.

Nice "family" restaurant. I had the eggplant Parmigiano, and it was very good. It didn't come with anything, and you are charged for water and bread, but that is typical for Europe. The atmosphere is entertaining, especially if you're seated at the back to watch tourist as they enter the restaurant 😀 I recommend checking it out while in Lucca, you won't be disappointed 😉

Food is typical Italian, wines are excellent and the staff are so friendly.

You go to the trattoria to meet the owner, Ubaldo. Quite the character. He only speaks Italian but we still manage to understand each other. The food was very good. Much better than the tourist traps around the plaza. The antipasto to start is a must then let your tastebuds decide the rest :) an experience!

Great food, great music, great atmosphere. The owner is truly a character and it was amusing to watch people walk by and a motorcycle gang show up! Food was delicious and the wine great for house wine. the ravioli with smoked cheese and cream is a house favourite. The bill came to €58 with two pasta and two small mains and a bottle of house wine

Unreal food, fun and friendly service, great environment. Saw plenty of large groups, be sure to call ahead for a reservation.

Very down to earth but tasty authentic meals. Great and fast service with a smile. The interior design of the place is something! If you like 80´s metal, this is the place for you. Wasn’t too loud, no worries, fun concept and great food!

Great food great atmosphere great service and very average prices. Don't miss the tortellini along with home made wine red or white.

What an experience! We enjoyed every minute. The staff were nice and the food even better. We started off with having onlt drinks and ended with a 3 course meal as we had food envy for everything that came out of the kitchen. Would highly recommend!
