Djúpalónssandur Beach is a stunning natural wonder, boasting an expanse of intense black sand and an array of mysterious rocks that create an almost otherworldly atmosphere. Nestled in the heart of Snæfellsnes peninsula, this arched-shaped bay is lined with marvelous coastal rocks and scattered with smooth black pebbles, offering a unique experience for every visitor. Despite the strong winds, ice, snow, and high waves during our March visit, these elements only served to enhance the dramatic scenery. The walk down to the water is breathtaking, and the beach is an ideal spot for those who enjoy skimming stones across the water. For anyone in the vicinity or thinking of making a detour, Djúpalónssandur is an unforgettable destination that is well worth the visit.

Great black beach with beautiful rock formations. On the right side of the beach are the wreckages of a boat which stranded here decates ago. There is a sign explaining the story of the boat. You can also see a small lake. There is a free parking with toilets. You can easely access the view point if the beach. The ways to the beach are sleepery if it is raining so be careful.

This is a beautiful little beach, there’s a really nice walk down from the car park to the sea front. There’s some rocks to lift to see how manly you are, and some debris from an old wreckage. We sat on the black rocks for a while dipping our feet in and listening to the waves. There’s also free public toilets.

This black lava rock beach is in Snaefellsness and is quite a unique and gorgeous place to visit.
You have the beautiful lava rock landscape, ground lava rocks beach by the sea with black polished stones. The beach had a fishing vessel shipwreck pieces strewn on the beach, interesting. Stunning natural rock formations in the sea.
A path above the beach are offers an aerial view of beach for great pics.

A very scenic beach that is easily accessible from the parking lot. One can see the magnificent waves crashing into the shore, remnants of the fishing trawler that crashed here in 1948, and also admire the beautiful black sand and rocks. Usually it is quite empty and a great place to be.

Djupalossandur beach is well worth the visit. It has the remains of a shipwreck, with a sign explaining what happened, beautiful lagoon, with reflections of the Snaefellsjokull glacier (if the weather is right) and the famous stones to test the strength of the sea fairing crew. Also - a beautiful black sand beach (though on day 13 in Iceland, the black sand beach in and of itself was less exciting). You can view the beach from a boardwalk and accessible viewpoint up top, or do the 10 minute walk down the path to explore it more in person, which was my preference. Overall we were here around 40 minutes, exploring the beach and taking photos from multiple locations.

Very nice beach only 5min walking from the car park (free). Black small rocks, very clean water and beautiful pictures of what remains of a 1948 english boat. Nice spot!

A must see site. There is a hidden lagoon with cool rock formations surrounding it. Walk a little further and you get a beautiful black sand beach and more beautiful rock formations jutting out into the sea. I think this place was even better than the Reynisfjara black sand beach. If you only have time for 1 beach, visit this one.

This was truly one of our favorite places in Iceland. The incredible formations of lava rock, black sand beach, and waves rolling in with the clearest water we’ve ever seen. Just spectacular.

Very cool beach. Do not take any of the beach rocks with you, it is illegal. There are also remains of a 1940s shipwreck. Up on the ridge is a nice trail where you can walk to get a view from above the beach also.

Great beach! A nicely paved, large parking lot for cars + campers alike with free restrooms. Some of the paths down to the beach are being upgraded but there are still other ways down. It is well worth the short trip down to the beach to see the remains of the British Epine GY7 and the two fresh water lagoons along with the incredible beauty of the shoreline.

Parking lot close to the beach, with public toilets.
There is a view point over the beach, but you can also go down to the sand and walk around. You can appreciate rock formations and here you may also find few metal pieces from a ship wreck that happened in the mid 19th century.

Wow! What a great place, the short hike is really beautiful, and it was amazing to walk among the rock formations, along the beach and explore. Wonderful stop along the coastal road!

Definitely worth a stop! The beach itself is not necessarily something one would stop for, but the walking path that goes along the cliff walks you through amazing panoramas. The entire walk takes 2-3 hours to complete (one way) but you can as well spend an hour-ish walking along the path and then go back to the parking.

Note that the beach itself is crowded at all times of the day, but the walking path is not!

Beautiful black sand beach! Even if it is busy, it is large enough to have your own space. The sounding cliffs are great for pics and videos. While we were there, we saw a guy get soaked by waves because he got too close to the water. Thankfully it was not that cold and he had a change of clothes. You do have to walk down stairs and across the rocky ground to get the shoreline. I recommend you were waterproof shoes.

The volcanic formations are nice on the way down to the beach but the make sure you spend the time to walk up to the other side of the cliff over looking the beach. The view is breathtaking. Must see! I wish I had known earlier therefore would have more time to spare enjoying the beautiful view. Definitely one of the most beautiful view on this trip thus far.
