Very nice tour guide and we learn a lot from the 40min visit. Only 35m below the ground.
Love the completed darkness experience!

Excellent for. Moderately strenuous circular stairs, maybe 6 stories high.

I’ve been meaning to write ✍ a review of our tour in Vatnshellir Cave. My wife and I traveled to Iceland 🇮🇸 in mid November last year.
Our first stop was the caves. When we arrived everyone was so kind and helpful. We were the only two scheduled for the tour. It was fantastic!!
Our guide took us down, told us about the cave and it’s history. He was very friendly, gave us advice and suggestions for our stay in Iceland.
I would highly recommend coming here. It was beautiful

Visited January 2022 for a tour that we booked online.
The tour is about 45mins long and takes you down into the cave with a guide. It is dark and moist inside, as expected of a cave. You'll be given helmets and torches.
It’s a great little tour!

We visited this lava tube on a rainy day. The nice thing about Lava Tubes is if it's a rainy day you don't know it!
Great parking a short walk to the small gathering building which was nicely done. You get a helmet and a flashlight and a safety talk about what's going to happen. Then your group goes out and over to the tunnel entrance where you to send a spiral staircase into the tunnels. The tour guide gives a very good explanation of what you are going to see answering questions and shining their more powerful flashlight which really shows you the extent of the tunnel.
After that you descend another Spiral Staircase even lower into another amazing area seeing things that you've never seen before. And then back up to spiral staircases to the surface where it might be raining but that's okay because you just had an awesome time.

Guide was super nice, funny, and easy to understand. Her explaining and storytelling made me believe in trolls, price is good. The cave was actually really cool to see.

Great tour to get some information about lava, Icelandic terrain and local beliefa. The cave itself is extraordinary
The best option for a windy, rainy day but you should stop by for 45 min tour even on a sunny day. Be sure you booked first.

An 8000 year old lava tube. Walk underground. You will get a helmet and a föashlight and a guide. Temperature is about 5 degrees and it is damp and wet, but the experience is authentic. No toilets on the spot!

A must see in Iceland! Going deep in a lava tube was a great experience! You will need to wear good shoes and you might need a jacket. We went in July and still needed a jacket because it was cold below the surface. Also be prepared that the cave drips water. This is nothing major but take a little extra caution if you using cameras/phones. You take stairs down to the bottom so make sure walking up/down stairs is not a problem for you.

You must join the guided tour to visit the cave and you do learn a lot about Iceland's geology from the tour. Flashlights are provided during the tour (without them it is pitch dark - there are no other guide lights inside the cave); however, a part of the tour allows you to experience pitch dark where all the flashlights are completely switched off. Photos can be taken in the cave with the help of everyone's flashlight pointing at the cave. Make sure you bring some warm clothing as it is cold down there (even during the summer)

Interesting experience. Something I have never done before. The guide was knowledgeable and made the tour Interesting . There were more people on the tour than I expected and i think it would be better if the group was smaller.

We had a lot of fun going down into the lava cave on our guided tour. Definitely some steep stairs down, but was no problem. Were able to go into 3 different sections and the guide explained how the caves were formed along with different facts and stories. Very unique experience.

This is a wonderfully run tour! The penninsula is very cold and humid in the winter, so I suggest some extra padding should you choose to come out this way in the winter!
The tour was around 25-30 minutes, and an overall fun experience!
If you are out to the west, I suggest pitstopping Here! It's easy to miss the entrance though as it is a little shack right near the entrance of the Snaefellsjoekull National Park, so keep your eyes peeled!
I'm pretty sure they allow payment on the spot, though I imagine if you go peak season; you may not be able to get a spot without a wait. I'd suggest ordering your ticket online ahead of time!

This was indeed a memorable experience. We did the 45 mins tour and gained invaluable insight into how the lava cave must have formed. The best part is when you get to the deepest section of the cave and we turned off the lights - that was the first moment for me to experience complete darkness. Highly recommended

Fantastic nature lava cave. A must to visit for an adventurous experience. Recommend only adults should be going kids will have difficulty to navigate inside cave.

The volcanic cave is very different than the limestone caves in the US. The guide was very knowledgeable and explained things well. It is crazy windy and cold so dress up. Be real careful inside the cave as it is very dark. The walking and climbing is not difficult, just take it slow.

The guided tour was great, and the cave was a very nice experience. Price was fair and I'm very glad we went!
