I can see why this church is such a popular place to visit. The black was so stark against the whiteness of the snow and the incredible blue skies with the fjords serving as a breathtaking backdrop. Absolute stunner of a sight and highly recommend visiting.

Very beautiful church and cemetery! It’s one of the iconic photos you see of the Icelandic countryside and it’s definitely worth adding to your lists of stops. Very cool and a lot of other really cool sites to see nearby, so definitely add it to your itinerary! You won’t be disappointed!

Aesthetic place for taking pictures with long and harsh history. The church has been demolished and rebuilt few times during history, but its final look it got in 1848 when it was renewed and proclaimed church again.

Iceland has many such small, cute and isolated Churches. Mostly, they're white with red roofs.
This one, in southern Snaefellsness peninsula differs from all others. It's totally black, only with white door and windows.
In front is a free parking lot, but the Church was closed so we could only peek inside through windows. A very picturesque and beautiful site to visit

Beautiful black church basically in the middle of nowhere. We went around 10 pm at night so it was closed but it was still beautiful to look at from the outside. The wind was crazy up there, but it was really worth it for the photos! Also, nothing in that town is really open past around 7-8pm so stock up on food/essentials if you go at night!

Seriously stunning. We stopped by during our loop around the area. This charming black church stands out in the very green and lush environment its located in. Its breath taking. A must stop especially for photographers!

Iconic church along the coast in Iceland. Beautiful scenery and picturesque from so many angles. You can have mountains in the background, the ocean, pure blue sky. Incredibly photogenic and well worth a visit. Just a short jog down a well traveled dirt road.

Iconic and beautiful. It’s with visiting in any weather. Just some short walk to the beach. Parking can be crowded, but it’s free. No wc.

This iconic black church complements the stunning landscape. If you happen to pass by, it's worth stopping here.

If you encounter a bus full of tourists at the location, be prepared for a dose of patience. It won't be easy to take a nice photo 😂

The church is very special and impressive. It's surrounded by a beautiful landscape of the Snaefellsnes peninsula. An interesting fact is that it got its current black color only in the last renovation in 1987.

Beautiful spot on the way to explore the natural landscape of Iceland.
The road is well paved no issue with that.
Check the weather before deciding, it was windy when we arrived but we managed to get amazing shots.

There's something captivating about that small black church in the middle of nowhere, especially combined with the challenging weather. It sounds like it made for a truly joyful trip.

Beautiful black wood church. We visited in the evening just after sunset and were the only ones there. The church looked amazing at night. They have spotlights around the church to aluminate the area. I recommend visiting it at night for a different (and less crowded) experience. Worth stopping by if you’re in the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.

It is a beautiful church with breathtaking views in a western part of Iceland. We went on a really windy day and was thankful to have hot chocolate to warm ourselves. The cemetery next to it is interesting and also worth a look, I would recommend taking a walk to seafront, which is amazing.

Iconic church on the Snæfellsness Peninsula. Stunning contrast of the black exterior against the crisp snow landscape. Plenty of parking to the front of the church that is free.

We couldn’t have asked for a more magical place to be married. The priest was friendly and well organized. We had an intimate wedding, and it could not have been more special.

Must-go for photographers. So many great compositions to be had, both up-close and from afar. We went in winter and the contrast of the black church with all the white snow and gray mountains was incredible.

A mysterious church located in an amazing location. The views of snowy mountains surrounding the church is breathtaking. Would be a nice place to see northern lights as well. Don't expect to spend more than half an hour here. Just a 10 min detour from the main road and worth for some beautiful pictures.
