Two well preserved lighthouses with great views all around. Definitely climb to the top of the newer lighthouse, singing while you go (great acoustics). Very nice restrooms available. Plenty of parking. Small visitor center with historical information.

Great parking and a very small fee to walk up to the top of the lighthouse which offer spectacular views. Narrow stairs and need reasonable fitness to climb.

Both lighthouses are nice, we spent there overall 10-15 min, not that particular with views. WC at visitor’s center just next to free parking

Absolutely lovely. We happened to go on a nice weather day, so albeit a bit windy, the sky was a beautiful blue with lots of clouds. The lighthouse was empty, so we walked around the grounds and had it all to ourselves. There was some kind of art exhibit inside with haikus displayed on various levels (some in English, some in icelandic). Some of them were particularly poignant for me in my life currently and I appreciated the addition of this display to our adventure.

Loved our quick visit to the lighthouse. The lighthouse keeper was very friendly. Pay the $2 to go in, you will be pleasantly surprised. There is currently an art show in there. The acoustics in the lighthouse was great. There are clean bathrooms as well.

Surely this is not the busiest spot in Iceland in early October, sunset can be seen from here, 2 lighthouses on site, free parking.

Stunning, and such an amazing host! Learned a lot and cannot wait to come back some day for a concert

Beautiful and easy walk to see both the old and new lighthouses. Many people leave cute painted rocks. Lots of gorgeous photo opportunities, and is a peaceful spot to look out at the water. No entry fee or queues to walk around the area, but we did not try to enter the lighthouses.

Well worth the visit if your close, if you go into the large light house, go inside and close the door hard, the sound is incredible.

A great place to get wonderful pictures from the Western side of Iceland. Free entrance into lighthouse for seniors.

The Old Akranes Lighthouse, a maritime relic perched on Iceland's rugged coastline, is a poetic symphony of history and nature.

Majestically weathered by time, its iconic silhouette tells tales of seafaring adventures. The lighthouse, a stoic guardian of the North Atlantic, offers a panoramic dance of ethereal lights against the Arctic sky.

Visitors are transported to an era where maritime charm embraced isolation. The haunting beauty of its surroundings amplifies the lighthouse's allure, creating an enchanting dialogue between the past and the present.

A visit to the Old Akranes Lighthouse is an intimate encounter with maritime elegance and timeless allure.

Short drive from Reykjavik under the tunnel.
Free car park, clean toilets at visitor hut. Old lighthouse is rocky path. New lighthouse is taller and the one you can climb up. 300kr adults, under 18s free. Art for sale is displayed on the lighthouse walls as you climb up. Good views at the top.
Lady in visitors hut speaks good English and likes to chat and recommend places to visit.
Worth a visit if nearby

Apparently the last lighthouse in Iceland you can climb up. Just 300isk fee, friendly and informative chap at the visitor centre. Likely to be windy!! Great setting, interesting shape, 5 lots of wooden steps, great view 360°.

Very friendly "lighthouse keeper"/guide will welcome you at the visitor's centre. Love his anecdotes about the various celebs who have been to his lighthouse. The acoustics are so amazing in the lighthouse that impromptu concerts are held there. His enthusiasm is just infectious.

The lighthouse feels kind of stylish to me especially with art exhibitions inside.

Climb up the stairs to the top, beware of your hats on a windy day.

Very reasonable visit fee for 300isk per person. Lady at the welcome center was welcoming and helpful.

Loved visiting this lighthouse. The only one in Iceland you can visit and go inside.

We were able to climb this lighthouse to the top. It is really cool inside as well as the view from the top. I don't have a photo from the top as my cell phone so inconveniently died. They even hold concerts here because of the great acoustics inside the lighthouse walls. On the walls, there was artwork by local children. On the grounds nearby, there are wooden structures where the locals dry their fish.

Wonderful place. While in Akranes it is a must visit. Old and new lighthouses. You can climb the new one, from there you have a magnificent view of the bay and the ocean. Usually the entrance costs 300 kronas, but now the entrance is free for Ukrainians.

Two lighthouses for the price of one, the old one pictured. and the new one a hundred yards further inland and much taller, you can climb to the top and walk around for a small fee, the lighthouse keepers were very friendly and helpful, and the views from the top were well worth the climb. Highly recommend you check it out!
