Djupalonssandur is a place that has a lot going for it and could really be four different things altogether. The Beach itself is a black pebble beach, not sand, and walking is much more difficult. ALong the end are the black rock formations that look a lot like anthills or beehives from a distance.

A lovely pebble beach with rock formations. The walk down is short and easy from the carpark, and there are toilets in this carpark. We went on a Saturday in October but it wasn’t all that busy. It was very windy and cold so be prepared to wear appropriate gear if you want to stay long

Amazing place to go walk with great views. I was told to pay attention to the tide because it could be dangerous but when we went it was perfect. Go try the lifting stone test to see what job you wouldve been able to do (I was a weakling 😅).

Beautiful beautiful beautiful! Black pebble beach with scneic vistas and amazing views, you will pass by the remains of a while epine grimsy that crashed here and with a little history lesson. It’s quite a walk like with everything else over uneven surface. Oh your way in, you will pass by this beautiful rock formation too.. loved every bit of it.

You can also see the other active volcano and glacier Snæfellsnes in this

Beautiful black sand and pebbles beach. Do not get too close. There are random big waves will crash the beach without warning. People had died from the big waves took them out to the sea.

Completely magical. Walk one of the short trails down to the black pebble beach and watch the waves roll in and the pebbles dance at sunset... it’s incredible! There’s a parking lot with a WC open during the summer and a variety of different trails you can walk.

The cliffs and rocks leading up to this beach were spectacular, but when you walk out to the beach it is absolutely breathtaking! Be careful of high tide as that will come in quickly there. The black pebbles are fascinating and having the shipwreck scrap scattered everywhere is an absolute gem!

Great black sand beach. In fact, I would say better than the ones in South Iceland. This beach is bigger and therefore doesn’t feel as crowded. Car park has free toilets. The walk down to the beach from the parking lot is a little steep, but short. Probably takes 10 to 15 minutes to get from car to water.

Very busy, but the hike to the second beach was secluded and beautiful.
