Visited here after an 8 hour each way drive from Reykjavik. Puffins all over the cliffs. Virtually no cell service except for emergency calls. The weather station was really cool, and the hike itself to the cliff face was even cooler. 100/10 amazing experience

Very beautiful hiking area; and most importantly: actually one of the most important bird cliffs in the world. The cliffs are up to 450m high, millions of animals have their habitat here. (For the lovers of the cute animals with the colorful beaks: Puffins I met in the front part of the cliffs, a few meters behind the parking lot).

Access via un-difficult gravel, but it takes time. Some accommodations in the nearby village.

In the Westfjords a must!

We arrived at the cliffs at 9pm as recommended by other reviewers and people in town. The puffins did not disappoint! We spent two hours watching the cute birds fly on and off the cliff, and waddle around the edges. There were many photographers there but not overwhelmingly so. It really is the best time to view them as they are out fishing during the day. We also saw many auks. We didn’t want to leave. Many photographers brought out their giant lenses, but you can also get decent photos with your phone because the puffins are so close and unafraid. It is quite a journey out to the cliffs. It took us a little over an hour from Patreksfjurdor. There is one bathroom/rest stop available before reaching the cliffs.

So worth the drive! Don't go in the middle of the day because the puffins are out to sea hunting. We got there about 10pm and stayed through midnight and there were plenty of puffin without waking very far. The road there was bumpy and along cliffs on dirt road so we were worried about getting a flat tire, but so glad we took on the adventure. Once in a lifetime place! You can get with in a few feet of the puffins. They just stay there and pose.

Stunning landscape with an incredible amount of wild birds. Millions of seabirds and amazing views. The road there is a dirtroad with quite a few potholes but it was doable with a small 4x4 and we saw people in regular passenger cars too. Visibility can be tricky on a foggy day. There are no facilities at the cliffs and the "last toilets before the cliffs" were closed so make sure to stop before (e.g. at the little museum with a US plane wreck a couple km before the cliffs). We saw only a few puffins as we were there mid-day when they are usually out at sea that time of day.

Látrabjarg is nothing short of a natural wonder. My recent visit left me in awe of the sheer beauty and majesty of this place. The towering cliffs, stretching endlessly along the western coast of Iceland, provide a backdrop like no other, overlooking the vast Atlantic Ocean.

What truly makes Látrabjarg special is the incredible diversity of birdlife that calls these cliffs home. Watching puffins, razorbills, and other seabirds in their natural habitat is a rare and unforgettable experience for any nature enthusiast.

The sense of isolation and remoteness adds to the charm of Látrabjarg. While reaching this location requires some effort, the reward is worth every step. It's a place where you can truly connect with the raw beauty of Iceland's wilderness.

If you're a nature lover, a photographer, or simply seeking a unique adventure, Látrabjarg should be high on your list of must-visit destinations. It's an enchanting place that will leave you with memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Worth the drive! We took a 4x4 in late May and had no issue. WC/bathroom at base of location. There were at least 4 different types of birds here, including puffins! It took us awhile to see a puffin and were actually leaving when one flew right up to us and settled about 6 feet away. A super cool experience. I would definitely recommend this view and experience to anyone, and encourage you to be patient when looking for the puffins. I think they may be hard to spot due to the sheer amount of other birds there are and maybe depending on time of day or where on the cliffs you are looking.

Nice walk from lighthouse up with amazing views; walk is not hard, just super windy and cold;you can see a lot of birds; if you really want to see puffins just stay next to lighthouse-it is even named puffins cliff:)

The Látrabjarg sea cliff is full of life in the summer months, Puffins, Kittiwake, Seagulls, Guilimot and other species can be seen there. A gravel road takes you there, with some amazing views on the way.

Soooo worth the drive. The drive is stunning and the cliffs and seeing all the puffins were unbelievable. A guaranteed spot to see puffins not far from the edge of the cliff. Make sure you wear proper walking shoes and be prepared for high winds at the top of the cliffs. Listen to the signage when it says to lie down near the edge of the cliff as the edges are very soft.

Really far but rewarding. The puffins are mainly at the beginning. They get really close!

Worth the long drive (if you dont mind spending some money on gas). We saw soooooo many puffins, now we can finally head back home with those beautiful creatures in mind. The hike is quite cool as well, you will meet a big cliff where seagulls have decided to live... and they are noisy as well but it's funny!

Amazing area of bird viewing and nesting on the cliffs. Puffins come here to beat especially late June through early Fall. A definite birding place for photography. A decent home on the edge of the cliffs for some grand views as well.

Went in search of Puffins. We struck out but had a great hike and the entire area to ourselves. It’s so beautiful and so remote! Reminiscent of the cliffs in Ireland.

The drive there is a long and hard. The road is from gravel and has many turns and hills which can be quite dangerous!

The view from Látrabjarg is one of a kind and great to be able to see puffins and other birds this close.

Great place to see puffins and other sea birds! In May, 2020, there was no one else around except my friends and I, and at the 11pm sunset, was an amazing experience!

We went here with a 4wd on the 25th of april. The road was good enough for a 4x4 not recommended for 2wd. It was amazing, we had to look very well but did see 5 puffins at the cliffs!! Loved it & worth the drive!

If birdwatching is your passion, you have to come to this place at least once in your life between May and August. On the cliff side, there are all sorts of marine birds nesting: guillemots, razorbills, fulmars and of course puffins who are not shy. On low tide you can clearly spot seals too. It feels like being in a documentary. But West Iceland is so pristine and wild that you can obviously spot birds on the other side too, the one descending into a white sand beach. I spotted my first red necked loon in the little pond by the beach. And on the way to Latrabjarg while driving, I spotted a snow bunting. The shore before you reach Latrabjarg is a tern reproductive site, drive slowly! In Breidavik I spotted a red necked phalarope. This is pure paradise for birdwatching. Two things about the place: dogs are not allowed and don't go there if there's a forecast of strong wind. Wind in Iceland is brutal and can even capsize your vehicle or push you off the cliffs and on top of that on the road that leads to Latrabjarg there is a risk of ravines. Check vedur.is before you go.

If you love Puffins find a way to get here!
The Puffins are right at the parking lot area across the grass on the cliffs overlooking the sea! You can almost touch them!!
