Worth stopping and walking along the path and reading all of the signs along the pathway. There is a big sign at the beginning that is worth skipping because the newer plaques give you much more detail into the significance of the site. I was impressed be how much attention was put into a seemingly random stop.
It’s the location of the last public executions in Iceland. Not the last executions which happened at a later date. This is when decided to do away with them publicly in 1830.

The whole place is being redeveloped, there is a new parking area and tarmac path to the site with information boards telling the interesting but tragic tale of those involved. Well worth a visit if you're passing.

Interesting piece of history here. The last execution in Iceland took place here in 1830. It is a 2-3 minute walk from the signage. The bodies were interred without ceremony at the site of execution and their heads displayed on pikes. Their bodies were later reburied in the cemetery at Tjörn in Vatnsnes.

The plot and storytelling in this one is actually interesting and captivating. It's not only just an execution spot but more of a walk-through story

Histroschier Ort, interessant mit gut erklärter Geschichte der Hinrichtungen in Island insbesondere der letzten die hier stattfand.
Liegt an der Strecke ist also leicht erreichbar und die Besichtigung dauert nicht lang!
