Yazd is one of the historical cities of Iran, whose ancient attractions have made this city one of the first historical adobe cities in Iran and the second historical city in the world. Considering the abundance of Yazd's attractions and adobe buildings, the fact that the name of this historic city has been registered in the UNESCO organization, it is also referred to as an international city. In this article, we would like to talk about the Yazd Water Museum, which is located in the north of Amirchakhmaq Square. This museum is located in one of the old houses of Yazd, and as soon as you enter it, you can get to know the thousands of years of water history in this region.

A small, but relatively interesting museum
This museum highlights the relationship of water and the desert city of Yazd. Yazd would not survive without ingenuity and engineering and the inhabitants have always found ways to harness water effectively. It is probably not for everyone, but not a bad museum.

A nondescript entrance one may miss but we'll worth a visit. Walk through actual canal paths and passages with exhibits of relics and photo galleries. The building has a beautiful courtyard.

The province of Yazd enjoys about 3200 Qanats including the longest one in the world. Yazd is the focal point of this ancient technology in the country. Mansion of water museum with an area of 720 square meters was constructed by the late Mr. Kolahduz who was a merchant about 150 years ago. The regional water organization of Yazd purchased the house to establish the museum in order to display the technical, engineering, cultural and historical features of such an amazing Qanat system.

If you are travelling in Iran you have the impression it is a dry country. However, in cities and in historical houses there is always water. If you want to understand where all that water comes from, the Yazd Water Museum explains you the ingenious system of underground water canals also called qanat. Qanats often bring water to a city from underground sources that are locatel in the mountains. Qanats can be tens of kilometers long.

It is a good place to visit before you go around Yazd. It gives you an idea of how they handled water and quanats. Be aware they close for lunch and prayer 14:30 to 15:30.

Definitely worth a visit. It was very interesting to know more about their water canals - qanats. For the place to be perfect, it would need slightly more information in English

very informative, you can learn a lot about water distribution in the city, majority of objects could use dusting and models at exhibition could use some renovation, but in overall it's really nice place to visit.

A must see place. Don't miss here. It might takes an hour and half to go through all the places. All the halls are numbered so that you won't mix the hallways (there are too many rooms).

Precious courtyard (XXth century). Amazing experience through Qanat technology (hydraulic tunnels).

I studied mechanical engineering because of the ancient Persians and their innovative engineering genius. This may be of interest, only to nerds - but if you spend some time learning here - you’ll soon appreciate so much more of - - so much.

Yazd is generally associated with a desert city and lack of water. In fact, getting access to water used to be quite a big challenge!
The Water Museum is a wonderful place to get familiar with the ancient system of underground water canals.

You can go deep inside to some underground chamber to feel the coolness inside, which was functioned as ancient cold storage space. certainly you can also understand the qanat system through the exhibition but there is no part of real qanat system inside.

Great museum (well, a bit dated, but certanly informative), most things translated into english. But a highlight is architecture - it is housed in really magnificent Qajar era house.

In the Museum you can learn how a city in the desert can survive by catching scarce water sources in the desert and mountains

I thought it was very interesting. You should visit this at the beginning of your Yazd trip. It teaches you a lot about Yazd history and you will see a lot of it back when you visit the rest of the city.
