Thiruchembur Murugan Temple

Thiruchembur Murugan Temple is one of my most favorite Temple. I love visiting this Temple as this Temple has got all the Dieties and is as old as me and I have grown up along with the Temple....
I used to visit this Temple daily....
Hence I visited this Murugan Temple in the New Year beginning - 1st Jan 2024.

Wonderful temple blending both tradition and modernity as the temple is located on the third floor in line with Mumbai's scarce land resources. As a tamilian living in Mumbai this temple gives mini Tamilnadu vibes and a great sense of relief and happiness amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.

Thiruchembur Murugan Temple's location is a paradox: it is in a quiet neighbourhood (Chheda Nagar) in Chembur and yet right off the Eastern Express Highway. That makes it easily accessible while establishing a tranquil air almost immediately on arrival. As a result, parking is easily found in informal spaces.

The temple is meant echo one aspect of some of the hallowed Murugan Temples in Tamil Nadu. It is a tall structure that involves climbing close to 100 steps to reach what is effectively the third floor to get to the sanctum sanctorum. In fact, the overall area of the compound in which the temple is ensconced is low in comparison to what you'd expect from a temple. Together, these two dimensions make Thiruchembur Murugan a distinctly Mumbai structure: tall and compact.

The temple is 30 years old at the time of writing this review. The path to the top is marked by many wall sculptures that depict scenes from the story of Murugan or Subramanian. This makes it an engaging climb. The sculptures could have done with a more aesthetic approach though. The flights of stairs until the last one are laid out in a manner that make it eminently doable for the elderly as my aged father in law remarked. The last set of stairs to the sanctum sanctorum at the top are steeper than the rest but still perfectly doable. There is also the option of an elevator.

At the top, what awaits the visitor is a mix of subcultures from South India, lifted and planted in Mumbai. There are various shrines including the one dedicated to the chief deity Murugan accompanied by his two consorts Valli and Devayani. There is a larger space for music and dance performances, and group recitals. In the air, a melange of smells including burning camphor, vibhudhi, and lit lamps lend the atmosphere a sense of earthy, rooted quietude and calm which is another paradox. I suppose it is an acquired taste because I can imagine the uninitiated coming here and experiencing anything but serenity here. For those who know the feeling, it is a whiff of something that has become a part of one's experience palette. For others, I suspect it still offers value by way of novelty.

To this atmosphere, add the resident Chembur personae: Tamil and Malayali devotees of all kinds but united in their full-throated recitals of shlokas, some morning hues and I think the picture is complete. A typically vigorous Rudram Chamakam by a group of men was the highlight for me.

We lingered for a good hour and a half to savour this atmosphere and came away, energized yet calm, perhaps the final paradox in our visit.

It’s a beautiful temple, well planned design. Great ambiance and atmosphere, you’ll feel the positive vibes.
The idols are beautiful and well adorned. You can book poojas through mails and online web or through WhatsApp.
Main deity is Lord Murugan with his two consorts, at the entrance you have Lord Ganapathy and Lord Hanuman.
Lord Augustan with his two consorts, and Lord Sri Krishnan face each other on the left. Lord Ganapathy and Devi Durga face each other on the right. Navagraham is located beside the mandap where functions are hosted. A sanctum is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvathy.
An early morning visit is very quiet and peaceful as the temple is located away from busy main roads.

Peaceful ambience.
Very neat and clean in all aspect. The Pooja timings regular and accurate we can plan our schedule. We have to cross 108 steps upwards inside the temple but we can even use lift it seems(not sure 100%).
It's near to ghatkopar metro and electric railway station we can take a auto(99% metered auto vehicles)to reach there. It's much affordable either.

Amazing vibe, climbing stairs and devine darshan and aromatic fragrance all around good vibe. Its hidden gem in middle of city , though on occasions it's heavily crowded.

Try to visit early morning after 5.30 for a peaceful environment.

Wonderful temple, absolutely peaceful, full of greenery around. The hall is also fully equipped with all the necessary amenities. Highly recommended. No monopoly for catering services, major benefit.

Beautiful temple perched on the 4th floor of the temple building. The stairs are not steep, however, a little cardio before the almighty's darshan is a bonus. Apart from Lord Murugan or Karthik swamy, we have Lord Guruvayoorappan, Goddess Durga Devi and Lord Ganesha idols too in the same premises. The temple is located within a peaceful residential area of Chembur. Morning darshan will definitely give a calm and pleasant start to your day.

Beautiful Murugan temple with lift facility for the elderly. Poojas are conducted regularly. Their whatsapp number facilitates easy online payments and coordination. They are very prompt in replying to messages and queries. The temple also has a Krishna and Ayyappa Sannidi. A very serene and wonderful atmosphere. A MUST VISIT.

One of the beautiful temple in Chembur which have 101 steps to climb. For elderly people and children there is a lift facility in the temple area there is ample car parking must visit temple a long with Ayyappa Swamy lord Ganesh Durga parameshwari Natraj and Navagraha temple one will have a bird eye view from top area of chedda nagar.

Visited the temple. The temple is very well maintained for cleanliness and bakt friendly by the staff and Archahas. Very happy to have the Darshan and Puja.

Very unique and peaceful atmosphere. Temple is on top of the building which gives us the climb akin to hill top murugan temples. Very clean

South Indian Murugan temple, devine place, also housing Ganpati, durgai, iyappan, Hanuman and Navagraha temple for worship.

This place is unlike any other i have ever visited. The first time I visited here was in 2001 and I have lost count how many times I have visited. This place combines ancient temple tradition along with practicality of Mumbai land utilisation. The temple is in 3rd floor with a 108 steps leading to the top. The bottom floors are usually space reserved for bhajans, programs or exhibitions. On the top floor, you will a resplendent Valli Devasena sametha Sri Subrahmanya Swami as you enter, you will also see Guruvayurappan, Ayyappan, Durga Devi and Ganesha along with Navagraha. This place also has a lift to help older people who may not be able to climb stairs. If you are a South Indian who is new to Mumbai and feeling homesick, go here. You will definitely feel refreshed
