Zoo has a beautiful garden, lush green everywhere, variety of trees, so much to see and absorb but during the weekend it was too crowded around the spots to view zoo animals and crowd was not controlled like the way it is managed to view Penguins. One easily needs more than an hour or 2 to view all what has been placed here.

Do take online tickets, process is simple to buy it online. There was a long queue for tickets.

Nice city zoo with a pleasant clean park to walk through. The place is very clean because they have a policy of not allowing any outside bottles and packaged foods inside. They have decent amount of animal variety, even had 1 elephant considering all elephants have disappeared from India’s public places and parks. Not sure where the elephants are but hope they are safe. They also have cool penguins. Very nicely maintained and the garden and plants are watered hourly.

Best part - Tiger and Penguin.
Tiger was just amazing.
Many other animals also there.
Besides, Zoo very clean and neatly maintained. Good place to visit with kids

For best experience, visit on weekdays and not in holidays. There was too much crowd since we visited on Christmas holiday.

Good management... Lots of parking.. multiple outlets for snacks where you can get samosa, burger, coffee, tea, pizza etc.

Ample sitting places, kids play area, gardens, toilets, drinking water etc..

Good experience for kids as they get to see tiger, bear, elephant, hippo, hyna , leopard, Penguins, turtles, birds etc.

Ticket rates are reasonable.. you can book it online so that you don't have to wait in line, just visit the ticket printing kiosk and get the print of your ticket.

It will take around 2.5 to 3 hrs for complete your of this zoo.

Nice place for kids to be taken along with. But too much crowded at times. The tuck shop inside the zoo premises is a scam. They'll sell you anything for whatever price they like. However, the restaurant near the penguin enclosure is great with decent pricing.

Plenty of parking available, lot of walking required so better come in sport shoes. Lion was not there when we visited. You will get food and drinks inside. Sitting and breastfeeding areas are available. Wheelchair is accessible.

Great place to visit with kids!!
You can see many different animals like Tiger, elephant, leopard, hyena etc and also variety of different birds.
Unfortunately Lion and one other animal were yet to come when we visited.
Penguins are something you don't get to see everyday, so that might exite you.
Apart from that there are water drinking stations and toilets made all over the zoo. A small garden is present with swings and slides for kids to play.
Entry fee - Adults : 50/head, kids: 25/head (this might vary, also there are options for family passes, and also charges for camera)
You can book ahead your passes using their website https://themumbaizoo-ticket.mcgm.gov.in/

Precautions : 1. Do not take use and throw bottles with you, they'll be discarded at the entry of the zoo. Rather take metal or reusable bottles.
2. No food is outside allowed, so make sure you don't have any, or eat it outside. (There are food courts inside so no worries if you're not allowed to take your food in.)
3. Try to maintain the sanity of the place.
4. The Zoo is closed on WEDNESDAYs.

My inner desire to see penguins took me to Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Park and Zoo and it was indeed a wonderful experience.
There is a glass partition between us and the animals. So sometimes we can see them very closely.
I visited in Jan month and there were animals like sloth bears, tigers, elephants, penguins, several bird species, and many more...
They have a cafeteria as well. You can enjoy your snacks at very affordable prices.
Overall it's a good experience for you and your kids.
Do visit if you are an animal lover.

I like this zoo; it's a great place to visit. I went there with my friend on the weekend, and the tickets weren't too expensive. One important thing to remember: don't bring plastic bags, bottles, or snacks like Lay's chips. They don't allow them because they want to keep the zoo clean, and the security will take them if you do.
In a nutshell, our zoo visit was both fun and relaxing each and every path you will find water to drink I recommend it if you want a nice day out in a well-kept and peaceful place.

If you are planning to visit Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan (Ranichi Baug/ Byculla Zoo) go on weekdays. I've been here on weekend. It was very much crowded. There was a very long queue for tickets. It was my first visit after zoo renovation. There is no Lion in this zoo. Penguins are the main attraction of this zoo. There are two canteens inside. Water filters & washrooms are there.
Updating my review....
I was here on weekdays (Friday afternoon). Most of the animals were sleeping 😀. Cleaning was going on in the Penguins section. Bird watching was also the best part. An amazing garden to visit with your Children. They'll be surely happy.

We visited the zoo on Sunday 18th February. A lot has changed since I last visited this place in 2022. The best thing is that now you can scan and get a ticket online once you enter the zoo. I highly recommend scan and get tickets online as you can avoid standing in those long queues just like us, especially when you have kids with you.

Please note you cannot carry any food item, any plastic container or plastic water bottle inside the zoo.

As far as the zoo is concerned it is well maintained and clean. You will see staff cleaning the place every now and then. There is a small cafe and a food court inside the zoo which I personally feel is a bit expensive. For ex: a Frooti which is at an mrp of rs. 20 was charged 30. It completely depends on you whether you want to have something from these places.

You saw elepant, bear, monkeys, tigers, deer, sambhar, reindeer, hippo, turtles, tortoise, different species of birds and of course the highlight of this zoo Penguins. Though you don't get to stay inside the penguin building for too long. We were allowed for max 3 mins and then the security asked us to move out, this is how it is on most days.

Tickets: adult 50
Children: 25
Timing: 9:30 am to 6pm

All and all it is worth a visit :)

Mumbai Zoo is an absolute gem that continues to captivate visitors with its ever-improving charm. Stepping into this haven, the first thing that strikes you is the majestic aura surrounding the enclosures. Tigers, leopards, and deer roam freely in spaces that mirror their natural habitats, creating an immersive experience for wildlife enthusiasts. Yet, the real showstopper is the penguin exhibit—an enchanting display that steals the spotlight.

What sets Mumbai Zoo apart is its unwavering commitment to cleanliness and maintenance. The well-kept enclosures extend to the facilities as well, boasting spotless toilets and a cafeteria that beckons with delightful treats. The Aqua Birds section adds another layer of magic, showcasing the vibrant beauty of aquatic life.

For a repeat visitor like me, the allure never fades. The experience is not only visually captivating but also a testament to the zoo's dedication to providing a wholesome outing. I always leave with a sense of fulfillment, knowing I've witnessed nature's wonders up close.

A gentle reminder to all fellow patrons: respect the sanctity of this haven. Keep it pristine, refrain from littering, and adhere to the rules—especially the prohibition of plastic containers. Mumbai Zoo is a treasure, and our responsibility is to preserve its splendor for generations to come. I eagerly anticipate my next visit, drawn back by the allure of this remarkable sanctuary.

Lovely experience in Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udhyan which is the Byculla Zoo. It is very spacious, very clean, infrastructure is attractive, toilet, wash basin, seats all around the place are addition facilities. The main attraction would be penguin, tiger, leopard, Hyena, Birds sanctuary. The staff is very good and cooperative. Fees are too nominal. Definitely worth a visit. Just a request - please keep the place clean, don't litter, don't spit and do respect the animals who are much powerful than humans but have sacrificed their freedom to entertain the humans.

A spacious zoo with impressive infrastructure, this place ensures a comfortable visit with ample washrooms and convenient drinking water and food facilities.

While diverse, more animal additions could enhance the experience. The reasonable ticket prices make it an accessible outing for all.

Great place to spend Sundays with Children and family , we can see lots of wild animals roaming freely in their cage areas. The animals have plenty of space to stay happily.
