This is a very old and huge library with a variety of books. The staff here is helpful and nice. It is a very quiet place to study and is very spacious.

It was quite amazing to visit, even in 2022. Serene atmosphere to read a book, with a lot of sections available - fiction and non-fiction.

There is also a digital library towards the back side. Bring your own snacks and water though :)

One of the largest public library in Hyderabad. Where you can find any book related to literature, competitive exams, many other subjects. specially historical topic and much more. Here you can read newspaper and magazines or your own book peacefully.

Very big library with thousands of books. But facilities and infrastructure is not good. Toilets are in worst condition, No neatness, old equipments, it should be updated. It needs many management reforms.

This Public Library Is Located In A 127-Year-Old Heritage Building & It's A Reader's Delight

On the banks of River Musi is State Central Library, a majestic building that houses more than 5,00,000 books and magazines along with palm-leaf manuscripts that’ll leave you in awe. This is one of the oldest and best libraries in Hyderabad

What Makes It Awesome

Think of rasping stairways, creaking doors, and dust settling on books. The State Central Library of Telangana built in 1891 by Nizam’s chief engineer is a living testament to the magnificent bygone era, and we cannot tell you how enchanted we are! On entering the library’s courtyard, you shall be welcomed by the sprawling lawns and readers scattered under the trees. The staircase that ushers you into the library might remind you of the bespoke Harvard University library’s staircase, but step in and lose yourself in a world of rich literature. Known as Asafia State Library during its initial years, it was declared as the State Central library in 1955.
As you explore the library with abated breath, find the ceiling-high shelves storing an exhaustive collection of books on science, technology, medicine, fiction, non-fiction, legal, history, world politics etc. Some of the manuscripts date back to the 5th century, and while you’re there, we recommend you take the staircase to the first floor which leads you to their newspaper inventory which has papers from the 1940s too.
This 72,247-square-yard-building has two reading areas with people from myriad ages reading their heart out. What we also loved is their vast collection of regional literature that’s not limited to Telugu and Urdu alone – French, Italian, Portuguese, Bengali, Tamil literature, and translations are also found here. While readers can discover plenty of rare finds, research scholars can thrive in the amount of material that’s stored here.

Pro-Tip

Although it’s an obvious source of reference materials for students, researchers etc., the library promotes the act of reading rigorously. During the National Library Week, you’ll find it hosting a number of events that attract individuals and readers. If you’re looking for options for reading or want to meet more readers across the city, we suggest you head over to State Central Library and gift yourself its membership. Even otherwise, this library cannot be left unexplored by any reader. Also, finding a spot for car parking is tricky. You might want to use a two-wheeler or public transport

I used to go this library before 2004. Firstly this s a place for students who really love to study under a peaceful environment...this place is really awesome as we cannot find one mostly in any part of Hyderabad and it's totally free to enter...!! It is serving to number of great people. There are good parking, washrooms. Good bus facilities.

This place is brilliantly maintained. There are so many sections and the staff is very kind and friendly. The books are organized perfectly well and book-lovers, believe me, this place is Heaven. The silence and the ambience would leave you wishing that 'Time would simply stop'. Please, go there once. Gotta believe me.

Gem of a library, wonderful place to spend your day. For book lovers there can't be a better place on earth than this Library. It has a huge collection of books, very spacious, very well organized, neat, clean and peaceful.

You don't need to be a member, just walk-in and pick-up a book you like and you could spend the entire day sitting and reading in peace.

My mother was a librarian here and I used to spend most of my summer holidays here. This was about 20+ years ago. The children's section had plenty of great story books and comics. I still recall how my love for reading began here. One day I will definitely visit again.

Best public library in Hyderabad. Administration is good. There is scope for improvement but still the only best option.
Very good environment for those who want to study for competitive exams in silence and peace.
Personal printed material is not allowed which is kind of a drawback but the library has many books.
Those who want to study from their own books can study in the corridors where some tables and chairs are provided but the corridors are a bit crowdy.
Overall, much better than City Central Library.

One of the oldest libraries of India having a large collection of manuscripts and rare Arabic, Urdu, Persian and English books.

But the depleting condition of the building and the way books are preserved needs to be modernized.

Some books are available in indexes but missing physically, I think the authorities must check if the rare books are not stolen for selling in black market.

I used to be member of library during my college days then there used to be a larger section for Urdu books but now the Urdu section is limited to a small hall having a common lavatory and every now and then people passing in the hall for using the lavatory make lot of disturbance to the readers and creates bad fowl in the hall. Authorities are requested to shift the door to outside instead of inside of Urdu section. thanks
