I was lucky enough to be a part of German department since the time online classes in German started last year. I have done my Advanced B1 level course in online mode which started in June 2020. In the beginning,I was little apprehensive about the online course. But now after 8 months I am confident to say that they teach German in details, more than that of Goethe Institute. In online classes, the university taught us lots of grammar as well as a little of literature which I have not done earlier in physical classes else where. It is also very pocket friendly. I would definitely like to undertake more such courses for B2 level and more.

My journey of learning the German language started in July 2019 when I attended the first lecture in the amphitheatre styled classroom. I have to say, it was not very easy initially to build the base as it was totally starting from scratch. But gradually it became easier as our teacher was very patient and was ready to repeat the concepts and pronunciations anytime we needed. The language course is interactive and focuses on developing communication skills by making it mandatory to give presentations, playing dialogues, projects and much more. The department also made a seamless switch to online lectures in the wake of the pandemic and my entire A2 course was taken online. There was also continuous internal evaluation in the form of unit tests for efficient learning. All in all, my experience of learning German here has been smooth and enjoyable. I am glad it helped me to even clear the A2 exam at the Goethe institute with flying colours. I sincerely thank Shashank sir and Pranoti miss for making it a great and simplified learning experience and also Dr. Pathak for good coordination of exams and courses. I would really recommend all to study German here as I am sure your experience would be 'sehr gut' as well.

I have completed N5 Japanese language from German Department. Learning from MU is amazing. I came to know about this course from my office colleague and took late admission but with teachers patience and skillful teaching process cope up was easy. Online learning and exam was my first experience.
In the past I tried learning from some private institution, but it was total failure and frustrating.
I will not only join for further course but also recommend friends about German Department.

This place gave me a million memories, some awesome guides disguised as teachers and brought me closer to my dreams.

I would really recommend Dept. Of German for it's No-nonsense Policy and it's sheer drive for excellence.

P.S. All the prejudices and stereotypes relating to MU stand null and void as far as Dept. Of German is concerned!

I was little worried when the course started, as how the online lectures will be ? Will i be able to understand this new technique? Can I cope up with the young generation as I am doing any academics course after almost 22 years. But The teachers of German department are highly-qualified and passionate about teaching. Their guidance during the course and efforts taken made online German learning possible for students like me. A big Thank you to all the teachers.

I completed certificate course in Japanese language from German department of Mumbai University. Since the Covid19 hit many of the courses switched to online and that's how I found out about it.
I went in a bit hesitant since it was my first time learning a foreign language and it was an online course which was also a first time for me but it was a pleasant surprise.
I enjoyed the course so much and both our Sensei were experienced as well as a humorous people thus never making a class boring. Learning a complete new script wasn't as daunting because of the teachers.
I can recommend this as a starting point for anyone who wishes to learn a new language.

Mumbai University is a great place offering part-time courses to learn various languages. Among the language departments conducting these courses, I have found the German Department, the best department in the whole university.

The teachers, Pranali Ma'am and Rupa Ma'am, here are very caring and friendly and never let us go ahead with any doubt in our mind. In the one-year experience in the A1 course of German, conducted online this year, due to the ongoing pandemic situation, I have learned the subject very well and have made new friends.

I would like to thank Dr. Shrikant Pathak Sir from the German department for arranging such a well-structured online course!

I was a student of online part time japanese beginners course in German department of Mumbai University. One of the best learning experiences with a great and helpful faculty was recieved by me. I always wanted to learn Japanese and I took admission for this part time course. I was really really happy with the conduct and dedication of the faculty. Teachers ( Sarita Sundaram sensei and Reena patankar sensei) took sincere efforts behind the students, encouraged us to do better, took many doubt solving sessions and mock tests before exams. As it was online course, many students lacked interaction but teachers never gave up their efforts and taught with consistent energy. We also recieved honest and sincere help from the organizers (Dr. Shrikant Pathak sir) whenever we were stuck with the issues of network, admissions or exam related problems. The classroom environment was really friendly with quality education even though it was online mode. The classes never seemed as a burden of studies, instead our mentors became our friends and helped us throughout the course. I used to be always excited for attending the classes as it gave me a change from my monotonous daily routine. I am able to read, write and understand a little japanese due to this course and it makes me really happy. I look forward for more online courses and I am really thankful to German department and my mentors for this quality education. ありがとうございます!🙏

I have been part of the German department as a master's student as well as a student of their advanced course in translation and tourism.
The department provides the right environment for learning: highly-qualified and passionate teachers, continuous intercultural discussions, involvement of students in planning seminars and workshops, guidance during the course, exposure to German and other cultures, opportunities to use what has been learnt. It works as a great team and the output is great learning!

It was a complete positive tranformation in my life, learning German at University of Mumbai. I am blessed to have such learned Course coordinator, Head of the German Dept and the entire faculty at Dept. of German. The office staff is equally competent to quick administrative requirements.

The syllabus and teaching is to the point and professional. All the teachers had impressive knowledge not only about the German language but also about culture, civilisation, art and literature of Germany.

The library facility, numerous workshops, guest lectures and seminars on career oriented topics broadened our horizon to the opportunities in German studies. The assignments regularly given were very useful for examination preparations. Teachers were very helpful and friendly.

I wish to express my deepest gratitude towards the Dept of German, University of Mumbai for making my foundation in German strong and capable to go ahead with confidence. I am honoured to be part of Dept of German, University of Mumbai. I can look forward to continuing guidance from my Dept. I surely recommend my friends, juniors to opt for German studies at Dept of German, University of Mumbai.

I had an opportunity to learn both Japanese and German certificate level courses during last academic year. I would have to say my quarantine year has been the most productive because of this. All my teachers - Ms. Poojary, Ms. Mehta for German and Ms. Sundaram for Japanese were fantastic. They make language learning quite fun and interesting. The way the courses emphasize on both grammar as well as conversational part is very useful. I am hoping to continue my language journey with this institute in future as well.
