Dedicated to Lord Narasimha and the winter abode of Lord Badri, the temple has a peaceful, serene yet powerful vibe about it. Spacious both inside and outside, the recently reconstructed main complex is also quite visually appealing. Especially in the evening when it’s lit. There are also small temples dedicated to other deities around the perimeter of the Narsingh temple. Recommend reading up about the temple before visit to not miss out on appreciating the history and significance of it

Beautiful temple in Joshimath. Must visit on the way to Badrinath dham. It is one of the 108 divyadeshams of Lord Vishnu. The other two nearby are Raghunath Mandir, Devprayag and Badrinath dham itself. The location is beautiful as well.

Architecture is the same as kedarnath. Post diwali, when snowfall increases, Baba badri vishal will be kept under this temple only for the next 6 months until the gate opens.

History: It is believed that the construction of this temple was done by Adi Shankaracharya. The idol of God Narasimha established in the temple, is made of Shaligram stone and was built during the reign of King Lalitaditya Yukta Pida of Kashmir in the 8th century.

Famous as a part of Sapt Badri, Narsingh Temple is also called as Narsingh Badri Temple and a sacred place to visit in Joshimath. The deity of the temple is fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu (Narsimha Avatar), in the form of half Lion and half man. Narsingh Temple is located in Lower Bazaar area of Joshimath.

This temple is the resting place of lord badrinath during the time of winters

Temple is as beautiful which cannot be described in words..

Being located in the hilly regions the temple should be visited during the comfortable summer times of April and May. Travelling to hilly regions should be avoided during the monsoon months of July and August since the entire area remains susceptible to unexpected weather changes. You can also visit this place during the winter months of October and November when the idol of Lord Badri is brought down to this temple which is his winter home. The remainder of the months is uncomfortably cold to visit this region.

Shri Narsingh Devta, the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Try visiting the temple when you proceed towards Shri Badrinath as it's a one-way street. One can also enjoy watching the Elephant mountain and Sleeping beauty mountain from the temple premises.

Lord Narsimha Statue in Joshimath
Situated in the scenic district of Joshimath this temple is not only a popular tourist spot but is also an incredibly famous part of the Sapt Badri Yatra circuit. Also known as Narsingh temple the presiding deity at this temple is that of the 4th incarnation of Lord Vishnu i.e. Lord Narsimha, who is represented in the form of half lion and half human. Located in the lower parts of the lower bazaar region of the town of Joshimath, this temple attracts a huge throng of Vaishnavites and pilgrims from across India looking to offer their Darshan at this holy temple.

With the onset of the winter months when the temple Kapat of Badri Vishal shuts down for Darshan for a period of 6 months, the idol of the presiding deity of Lord Badri is then shifted to this temple at Joshimath. The idol is brought down amongst great celebration and dances and is placed right next to the idol of Lord Narsimha by the priests. The pilgrims on their winter char Dham Yatra or Panch Badri Yatra visit this temple to offer their prayer to the lord here which is more convenient since the entire region of Badrinath remains covered under a thick layer of snow.

How to Reach:
This 12,000-year-old temple is easily accessible since the temple is situated in the lower bazaar area of the town of Joshimath. The temple can be easily reached by covering a walking distance from Joshimath bus stand which is at a distance of just 0.5 km. It is at a distance of 10 kms from the main town and is about at a three-minute walking journey.

In case you are travelling by train then the nearest train station is situated in Rishikesh which is the Rishikesh railway station and is situated at a distance of 256 kms from Joshimath. After de-boarding from the station you will be required to hire a cab, taxi or get on a bus which is headed towards Joshimath. Once you reach the bus stand you will be making your way to the temple which is located in close proximity to the stand.

The history of the Joshimath Temple dates back to the 8th century, when Adi Shankaracharya, one of the greatest Hindu philosophers, established the temple as a part of his mission to spread the message of Vedanta throughout India.

A must visit when in Joshimath.

Our visit time was December, so fortunately we happened to witness the Pandava Nritya which a 10-day long show, and we visited the temple on the last day 🤩
We also could take blessings of the Badrinathji ki paalki 😇
The sunset was just perfect 🥹

What is Pandava Nritya ?
This ceremonial dance is performed to commemorate the journey of Pandavas and to bring happiness in the homes and villages of Uttarakhand.

It narrates the story of the Pandava brothers, beginning from their birth to commencing the Swargarohini Yatra- ‘The Journey to Heaven’. The sundry elements of their journey are covered in this ritual dance, staged on the thumping of the drums.

This 10-12 day long, dance skit touches various plots like Kichaka Vadh (slaying of Kichaka), Narayan Vivah (Lord Vishnu’s marriage), Chakravyuh (a military tactic designed by Guru Drona), Genda Vadh (sacrificing dummy rhino).

The last day of Pandava Nritya marks the closing ceremony of the fest, followed by a grand feast for the villagers. After which the sacred weapons used in the Pandava Leela are safely kept in the quiver.

Hiii...This Narsingh temple is very holy and one of the most important temple for Hindu. Here lord Vishnu protected his beloved pupil Prahlad from his evil father. This temple is situated in Joshimath where Badrinath ji came in winter and worshiped. This temple is situated on the edge of the mountain of UK. Here parking of every vehicle is not available and you have to park a little bit far away. This is very clean and maintained temple. Here Gaddi of Adiguru Shankaracharya is also present which can be seen and feel positive vibes...Thank you very much...🙂🙂🙂
