Spencer Plaza, nestled in the heart of Chennai, stands as a testament to the city's commercial history. Being one of the oldest shopping malls in India, it offers a unique blend of traditional and modern retail experiences. The mall's architecture harks back to an era of grandeur, with its colonial-style façade inviting visitors into a world of diverse shopping opportunities.

Upon entering, one is greeted by an array of shops that cater to various needs, from clothing and accessories to electronics and home goods. The plaza's layout, spread across multiple floors, makes for an interesting exploration as each level presents its own set of stores and eateries.

The ambiance of Spencer Plaza is a mix of bustling activity and nostalgic charm. Shoppers can find both high-end brands and local artisan products, providing a full spectrum of shopping experiences. The food court offers a taste of local South Indian cuisine, alongside other culinary delights, making it a perfect spot for a mid-shopping spree meal.

Moreover, Spencer Plaza's location is highly convenient, situated close to the business district and several hotels, making it easily accessible for both locals and tourists. The mall operates from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, offering ample time for visitors to indulge in their shopping desires.

While some may find certain items slightly pricey, the quality and variety often justify the cost. The mall's enduring presence in Chennai's retail scene speaks volumes of its ability to adapt and remain relevant in the ever-changing landscape of commerce.

In summary, Spencer Plaza is more than just a shopping destination; it's a cultural landmark that captures the essence of Chennai's commercial spirit. With its wide range of offerings and historical significance, it continues to be a favoured spot for shoppers seeking a blend of the old and the new

Spencer Plaza was built in 1863–1864, established by Charles Durant and J. W. Spencer in Anna Salai, then known as Mount Road, in the Madras Presidency. The property originally belonged to Spencer & Co Ltd. Spencer & Co opened the first department store in the Indian subcontinent e in 1895. It had over 80 individual departments. After a few years, Eugene Oakshott, owner of Spencer's, shifted the department store to a new building, which was an example of indo-Saracenic style of architecture. The building was designed by W. N. Pogson. In 1983, the original building was destroyed in a fire.

The present Spencer Plaza was constructed on the same site, measuring about 10 acres, and was opened in 1991. Spread across a million square feet built in three phases with parking space for 800 cars, the plaza is a major hangout for the people of Chennai.

It has too many of shops both dress 👗 materials and fancy dresses and fancy items with low cost and restaurant and advertising agencies and play rooms and more. It is the most important and one of the quoted identity 💕 of Chennai. Loved a lot , we bought many dresses for reasonable prices. Strongly recommend this place, you can hang out your family and friends when ever you have free time. After borning of so many shopping malls in and around the Chennai, The people's coming to this mall is down and it will be less crowded even weekend. So you can enjoy your shopping experience.

This is Oldest mall in India. And also one of the largest malls in India. Unlike other malls, it’s a budget friendly mall in Chennai. There are plenty of dressing shops available here for both women and men’s. Try visiting Zudio, you can surely find at least one product for your affordable price.

One of the oldest malls in Chennai. I used to go there before knowing the meaning of the mall.

The mall has aged. Many shops have closed.
But still it's so chill and pleasant.

They have started renting or leasing the mall to TCS and HDFC.

But still there are few shops that are available.

And the glass elevator of the late 90s is still functioning and looking elegant.

Do go and revisit your memories.

Ps. This is how the mall looks in general. No artificial sets that were made like how they do in the present malls.

One of the oldest malls & in the heart of Chennai ..!!

Many shops are inside this mall . Good place to shop wide range of products ..!

There are many wholesale shops where we can buy goods at cheaper than the retailers with same good quality.

Shops like casual clothings, winter wear, trolley, brand duplicate women's bag, at affordable rates. It has McDonald's, Saravana Bhavan to eat.

Important thing is the two wheeler parking charges is only 20 Rs for 2 hours

Must visit...

As no screens are available, Spencer Plaze lost its glorious attraction. However, office floors are fully occupied but shopping area is very dull. However, parking area is always full. This is the first mall built in the middle of the city.

Oldest Mall of Chennai. It has given lot of memories to Chennai people. Recalls the childhood struggle to get into the escalator. Now all the shops drastically came down to Price board sales. Madras coffee house is worth mentioning, Saravana bhavan also there. Ice Gola for kids. Variety of shops. At a reasonable price, can get craft items.

One of the oldest mall in Chennai. The best part about Spencer is that there are so many shops where you can buy clothes (women, men and children) at reasonable prices. That' s what makes Spencer different from other malls.

It is one of the modern landmark of the city and this shopping mall located on Anna Salai in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Originally built during the period of the British Raj, it is the oldest shopping mall in India and was one of the biggest shopping malls in South Asia when it was built. In most of the malls people go for window shopping but in this mall i saw people actually buying a lot of stuff because prices are reasonable in comparison to other malls in Chennai.
