Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), formerly known as Victoria Terminus, stands as a living testament to Mumbai's rich history, architectural grandeur, and the spirit of resilience. As a pivotal hub in the heart of the city, CSMT is not merely a transportation landmark but a symbol of Mumbai's vibrant past and its ever-evolving present.

The first impression one receives upon approaching CSMT is awe. The Victorian-Gothic architecture, adorned with turrets, spires, and intricate carvings, is a visual feast for architecture enthusiasts. The amalgamation of Indian and Western architectural styles creates a harmonious yet imposing structure that captures the essence of the city's diverse cultural influences.

Inside the terminus, the bustling energy mirrors the pulse of Mumbai itself. The vast and elaborately decorated interiors echo tales of a bygone era, with every nook and cranny showcasing meticulous craftsmanship. The iconic central dome, towering over the bustling concourse, is a masterpiece in itself, symbolizing the convergence of cultures and the city's relentless spirit.

CSMT is not just a railway station; it is a living museum, narrating stories of the past through its heritage galleries and exhibits. The meticulous restoration efforts have preserved the glory of the building, allowing visitors to step back in time while appreciating the modern functionality seamlessly integrated into its historic structure.

The terminus takes on a different persona at night when it is bathed in a warm glow, accentuating its architectural details. The sight of trains departing and arriving against the backdrop of the illuminated structure adds a touch of drama, creating a cinematic experience that encapsulates the rhythm of Mumbai's daily life.

Whether you're a history buff, a commuter navigating through the bustling station, or a traveler marveling at architectural marvels, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus offers an immersive experience that goes beyond the realm of transportation. It is a symbol of Mumbai's resilience, cultural richness, and its ability to seamlessly blend the old and the new, making it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the heartbeat of this dynamic city.

‘Statue of Shivaji Maharaj’ is located just opposite the world famous Gateway of India in Mumbai. This monument stands in tribute to the great Maratha emperor and warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who laid the foundation of the Maratha Empire that rule much of modern day India until it’s final conquest by the British.
The monument is an equestrian statue and depicts Shivaji Maharaj as a warrior armed with a round shield and sword. The monument stands in its own and is well maintained in small garden faces the Arabian Sea and its iconic neighbor the Gateway to India.
This area is generally crowded and you will find people busy clicking photos and selfis all-around.

Shivaji Maharaj ki Jai.
Without The great Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the ideology of 'Swarajya' is incomplete.
In 16th century he started building his empire. Within next 40 years he built swarajya, the meaning of which an empire which is liked and for well being of citizens where women and elderly are respected. He built a strong navy. After Shivaji Maharaj, the empire is taken by British in stage wise manner.

This statue is situated at the end of Shivaji Maharaj Road, right in front of Gate way of India, near Taj Hotel. It has small fenced garden where entry is restricted.
People use steps in front of it to sit and rest.
You can not miss his statue while in premises of Gate way of India.

Shivaji Bhonsale I 19 February 1630 – 3 April 1680, also referred to as Chhatrapati Shivaji, was an Indian ruler and a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan. Shivaji carved out an enclave from the declining Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur that formed the genesis of the Maratha Empire. Shivaji Bhonsle (19 February 1630 - 3 April 1680) was an Indian warrior king and a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan. Shivaji carved out an enclave from the declining Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur that formed the genesis of the Maratha Empire. In 1674, he was formally crowned as the chhatrapati (monarch) of his realm at Raigad.

Over the course of his life, Shivaji engaged in both alliances and hostilities with the Mughal Empire, Sultanate of Golkonda, and Sultanate of Bijapur, as well as the English, Portuguese, and French colonial powers. Shivaji's military forces expanded the Maratha sphere of influence, capturing and building forts, and forming a Maratha navy. Shivaji established a competent and progressive civil rule with well-structured administrative organisations. He revived ancient Hindu political traditions and court conventions and promoted the usage of Marathi and Sanskrit, rather than Persian, in court and administration.

Shivaji's legacy was to vary by observer and time but he began to take on increased importance with the emergence of the Indian independence movement, as many elevated him as a proto-nationalist and hero of the Hindus. Particularly in Maharashtra, debates over his history and role have engendered great passion and sometimes even violence as disparate groups have sought to characterise him and his legacy.
