There podi dosa and idly is the best. Even though you have to wait to grab a seat it is worth. There special four chutney's are hit. You will have to wait for long to get your order as the place is crowded.

Murugan Idli is one of the best breakfast joint in Madurai and parts of Tamil Nadu.
They serve 4-5 different chutneys along with Sambar and karam podi with Idli and Dosas.
Chettinad masala Dosa and Ghee Karan dosa are the stand out dishes amongst others.
Kaaran idli is the king of the restaurant.

Blissfully cold AC and water, delicious vegetarian food served on a leaf, clean tables and toilets. Great place if you want delicious Indian food in a sanitary environment. It's a huge step up from the tiny, crowded cafeterias nearby. They made the dishes not-spicy for me, which I appreciated deeply. Huge portions - we were stuffed all day.

I tried Podi Ghee Idli and Jigarthanda, SIMPLY MIND-BLOWING!! The taste is out of the world, there will explosion of flavours as soon as you put a small chunk of these idlis dipped in the chutneys in your mouth!

Murugan idli shop has renovated their old place and the new avatar is fantastic. The AC hall in first floor is very comfortable and feels posh. We ordered the ghee podi idli and small onion oothappam. They were yummy and their signature five types of chutneys were tasty as usual.

The sweet Pongal here should not be missed and not many know of it. We finally had their Jigarthanda. They also have a separate stall for Jigarthanda outside their restaurant.
It's become a custom to try Murugan idli if you come to Madurai.

It's very authentic south indian food.
If you are travelling frok north must try food here.

This place serves stunning breakfast dishes like idli, dosa, puri and so on. Despite the normal idli being great, Ghee pudi idli is a must try for all idli lovers. The varieties of chutney are lip-smacking. Mint and coconut chutney was my personal favorite. Vada was way too crispy. Although some people believe that the price of one idli is sky rocketing. It actually deserves the hype. Surprisingly, inspite visiting the restaurant during the closing hours, they still had every single dish ready to be served. Restaurant timings are not accurate as displayed. The restaurant is family friendly too. They charge additional for ghee, oil or pudi if required extra apart from the provided amount. I solely relied on the waiter and ordered food based on his suggestion which turned out to be fruitful. The waiters are quiet friendly and well mannered. The coffee was above average however I had higher expectations for the famous drink of Madurai i.e., Jigarthanda. It's located (opposite to pothys) at a prime spot and is very close (walkable) to the railway station and the famous meenakshi amman kovil and also close to Thirumalai nayakkar palace. I personally would recommend this place to all breakfast lovers.

As the name suggests, it is famous for idlis. Ghee podi idli is great to start with, accompanied with 4 types of chutneys and sambar. Dosas and uttapams with ample ghee too are to contribute to sumptuous meal. Didn’t like the Jigarthanda too much as is hyped. The location is renovated and easy to locate. Staff is good and helpful.

Very good and delicious authentic South Indian cousine. Podi idli is my favourite here. A must visit during trip to Madurai.

We were allocated with the table at the rooftop. The service at the rooftop is very poor. They are operating with very less number of staffs for rooftop.
There are no complaints about the taste of food, it was all delicious.
The major problem here will be the parking facility. They dont have a parking space for both bike and car.

I was hesitant first to go here because i usually avoid chain restaurant. The locals asked me to go here nevertheless and I’m so glad to have tried the idlis here. So many variety of chutney and varieties of idlis. I truly enjoyed my meal. Must go in Madurai

Never had such soft idli in life!! Absolute gem of quality! Filter coffee is amazing too. You could sense the roast flavours in coffee.

Food is bit costly but for the quality you can manage

This restaurant is well-known, especially for its special ghee podi idly. During my visit, I tried both the ghee podi idly and regular idly. They serve five different types of chutneys, all of which were fantastic. At first, I didn't love the ghee podi idly on its own, but when I mixed it with the chutneys, it turned out to be great.

I also ordered a vada and their filter coffee, which was delicious. This place is a must-visit when you're in Madurai. The service was excellent, and it's a pleasant experience to dine in such a customer-friendly environment.
