Tonglu, West Bengal

I had a trek from Dhotrey to Tonglu in October 2023. Such a beautiful place and there are few Homestay in Tonglu. Must book any homestay before you go Tonglu.

Fascinating!! The trek route is superb!! Loved every bit even though the last 2kms were quite steep!

I love this place more than Sandakhphu. The reasons are:
This place can be reached via Dhotre and following a mesmerizing trail all along and completely avoiding the comfort traveller.
Most of the traveller (who travel by car) don't stay in this place and hence it's way better.
The view of Kanchenjunga is awesome
The trekkers hut is awesome and the food is great.

Incredible views! You can see Mt Everest and Mt Kanchenjunga on a clear day.

Fantastic! Majestic! Superb! Amazing! No word can do justice to the view from here. On a clear day you can see the whole snow range from Everest to the right most end of Kanchenjungha. Hike through the meadows to Tumling, the settlement saddling Indo Nepal border. Simply out of the world experience.

A quaint hamlet between Manebhanjan and Sandakphu, under Singalila National Park.
Tonglu is a perfect place to explore the mountain with sleepingBuddha.
When the rhododendrons and magnolias bloom, Tonglu turns into a riot of colours.
At the night sky dotted with thousands of stars makes up for the pitch dark layout,It awesome feeling can't express in words.
Its awesome silent place. Only two home stays are there one is GTA trekkers hut (booking from gorkha bhawan saltlake sector 1).

Most beautiful place in West Bengal. Morning view of this place is spectacular. First light of the morning make this place mesmerized. World third highest peak Kanchenjunga just front of your eyes. Different color shades over this peak, it's just like a canvas.

This is the place in-between border of india and nepal. The scenic beauty of the place is like heaven. Here you can see clearly kanchanjangha. You go to maneybhanjan by local transport then change car with land rover because of altitude. You must inform forest department which situated maneybhanjan. Then you can go. There was upcoming tourist hut by tourism department by bengal. And also you can find trekkers hut. And mind blowing reception. I like it. And enjoy the place.

A small sleepy village in the Singalilla sanctuary at around 10000 foot altitude.
Breathtaking views of Kanchenjunga range also in clear weather Mount Everest is visible. Wonderful to see the sea of clouds under you.
How to reach - From Manebhanjan book 4x4 cars or follow the walking trail.
Accommodation - few homestay and government trekkers hut.

I did the dhotrey to tonglu trek alone without guide and proper trekking gear... It was very much fulfilling experience and staying at GTA,tonglu has been the most enriching experience so far of the tour. Absolutely loved the cold ,cloud,clear skies and sleeping Buddha range... Sunrise ,full moon night, shooting stars....ah u just couldn't have asked for more..

One of the best place to enjoy sunrise. That can be One of the best experience of your life. You can see the whole sleeping buddha from here. Please try to go there at winter, weather will be clear. There are a plenty of hotels and homestay, so no issue for fooding lodging, but you might not get your favourite dishes here. It’s 12 km from Manebhanjyang, You can reach there by cars or hiking.

Tonglu is a very beautiful place. Where along with the lake is Mount Kanchejunga with trekkers hut. The dawn of the morning is the new day.

Tonglu is about 2kms from Meghma and it takes about 1 hour trek to reach the GTA lodge from Meghma. The Gravel road for vehicles (which is also the trek route for most part) comes here from Meghma and continues ahead to Tumling which is another 2kms away. Trekkers not willing to stay overnight at GTA lodge can also take a diversion (a trekking trail) before reaching the GTA lodge and go down to Tumling on a route which is a little shorter).

The last stretch of the route to Tonglu from Meghma is quite steep and the it's an uphill climb all the way. However from Tonglu towards Tumling is a quick descend. It was only when I was approaching Tonglu recently in April, when I got the first glance of Rhododendrons (see the red flowers at the turning of the steep road)

Tonglu is one of the ravishing places in the singalila terrace. Its laudable landscape and spunky biodiversity made Tonglu different and unique. You can go to Tonglu from Manevanjan by the traditional land rover. Those who have decided to go to the Sandakphu may stay here at least for a night. The trekking route via Tonglu may be called the ' stairs of heaven '.
