Sewri Christian Cemetery

Christians of all sects are buried here.A remarkable cemetery established by the British regiment,now maintained by the Bombay Christian association.Memorable interior's and well planned across a huge area. The cemetery opens at 7 am and closes at 6pm throughout the year.

Huge green space in Mumbai and certainly a place where departed souls can rest. Its a lovely walk if you haven't been.

Historic and well-kept cemetery. Well organised by Christian sect. There's some 19th century Britisher graves near the entrance and sprinkled randomly throughout. On the east side are graves from Catholic religious orders and a mausoleum to Italian war dead from WWII.

The main entrance is on the south, and there's an additional entrance to the north.

An old cemetery which is still in use. A war memorial is also located inside. A nice walkway.

The biggest & an oldest Cemetery from the British era near to the (mainline) C.Rly Station near to Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sewri, Mumbai. The B.M.C has maintained the Cemetery for diff. Catholic denominations accessible from the front & the back doors. The Cemetery is kept clean and upgraded constantly. The Cemetery is barricaded on the periphery by high rise walls & kept save from the land sharks in central Mumbai. The Cemetery was planned sapling plants years ago, well kept by toiling labourers, nurtured by nature, the plants have bloomed into big-size trees bearing fruits & flowers. The people can Nestle through the deep woods amidst trees & well laid out paths to walk through reaching the graves, peacefully. I urge upon the people to whisper a prayer to God for the souls of the dead & buried in the Cemetery on their way to the graves. The graves are looked after, repaired from time to time & washed clean. A serene environment in the heart of the Mumbai city for the peoples' assembling for a short time to lay to rest in peace the dead burried in the Cemetery for their onward journey to Heaven remembering the grave & the soul of the dead for a life time. Let's not forget them but pray for them to God Almighty throughout our lives.

A peaceful place for souls to rest eternally..

Very pleasant place with lots of greenery. One feels peaceful when we enter here. Lots of history to experience. Some graves are couple of hundred years old. The remains architect of Victoria Terminus station (now renamed CST) are here.

May every soul who is buried there rest in peace. We visited the place because it claimed to have the graves of George Wittet, the architect of gateway of India and my Alma mater, KEM hospital, but alas we couldn't find his grave. But the cemetery is beautiful and calm. And also boasts to be one of the largest and oldest in Asia.

Biggest cemetery in India the sewri cemetery , the maintenance of the cemetery is perfect everything is managed properly and it huge cemetery where more than 1000 body can be buried and the watchman appointed by the cemetery were to good and respectful to all the people who enter and goes .

Once in a year I do visit .
