Unfortunately I had a horrible experience with Officer Laundry. It's not a cheap service. My bill was over 800 rupees but it was said to be a 24 hour service and I am just traveling through so time was an issue. There was a cyclone in Chennai the next day so they were not open and electricity in the area was out as well. This is understandable. Not their fault. The next day however they also were not open, due to Prohpet Mohammed's birthday which is a national holiday. Even this is understandable. Again. It their fault. I would have appreciated a phone call but not a big deal.

I came in the next day (over 48 hours later) and I'm told the clothes are still not done. I ask the man to check and he tells me I only brought the clothes in yesterday (when they were closed). I explained to him that I had brought the clothes to him over 2 full days ago and he reluctantly went to check. He found that my clothes were in fact done. He wasn't even willing to check before he tried to send me away empty handed.

I didn't ask for a discount and one was not offered. I paid the full bill of 872 rupees with a 2000 notes and they had no change. This is also understandable considering the currency ban in India, but his attitude was that I was inconveniencing him by trying to pay him.

I cannot fault them for the cyclone (including electricity loss), holiday and currency issue. But overall this was very unsatisfactory customer service due solely to customer interaction.

Upon further inspection I see that they also punched holes through some of my clothes to put tags on them and also folded all of my clothes with a piece of news paper in them. I'm sure this is common practice here but for a traveler it's extra weight and extra space in my luggage. I also don't want any of the ink from the newspaper to rub off on my clothes if they get wet for any reason. So I had to go back through and remove all the news paper from my clothes. This caused them to lose their press (which was not a very great press to begin with) and I had to refold them all myself.

Very bad experience.
