Madras Literary Society

A perfect place for the avid book readers. This is located inside the DPI Complex.

You have to enter the Directorate of School Education gate and it is on the left (red colour building) - hardly 300 metres from the main road.

It has parking facility for 2/4 wheelers. They are open from 10:30AM till 4:30PM. It is a perfect place to organise book launches, book reading session, book bloggers meet up etc.,

They have a huge collection of books from across all genres. Do ask for their affordable membership 😍

It's a treasure for book lovers... But you have to be a member to access...
And also its apt for book releases... Or book reviews... Literary works..
Even some art shows are also happens here..

One of the oldest libraries in India. They have lots of books (including some math/science books) published 200 years ago.

Madras Literary Society is more than 200 year old heritage building sitting in the heart of the city with very friendly staff like TSSundari the restorer of old books , Mr Prabhu who is a board member there, and is a treasure trove of old valuable books . It also has a lot of weekend kids storytelling and other classes.
Currently one of the prestigious venues for the Chennai Photo Biennale 2019 with 3 artists from Germany, Canada and Indonesia exhibiting their craft!

But now needs help .

All the vibrant young folks can take up the responsibility in bringing it back to its original form of life.

Things needed:- Volunteers.period.

Tasks:-

1- Maintaining the health of books as they belong to our great grand parents time.

2-As of now there are only 2 women taking the weight of the whole library. They are seeking for extra shoulders a.k.a *volunteers*.

3-Help inarranging the books.

Call for all kind hearts and history buffs.

MLS is a library with a rich and rare collection of old books and artifacts. Situated in DPI campus, MLS retains its classical charm. The library also has a lending section and offers membership plans for readers interested in borrowing books.

I was there during chennaiphotobiennale time.My experience was to good.we get to know lot of things about books,& specially biennale pictures.who are all book lovers for them it's really cool & decent place

I had a very good time there. I feel glad to go there. I wanna visit often

Go and volunteer for help. They are in urgent need of people to maintain the huge old library.
