If you love to explore Mumbai's diverse culture and heritage, one such area worth visiting on foot is the Hutatma Chowk.
Hutatma Chowk is a public square in Mumbai, which was named in honour of the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, which was a demand for the creation of a Maratha speaking state. Located in the square is the Hutatma Memorial Statue to commemorate the movement. The square is a popular and touristy spot as it’s close to all the main sights of Mumbai and also has the lovely Flora Fountain.
The square hosts Flora Fountain and was known by that name until 1960. It was officially renamed in 1960 in memory of the members of Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti, who lost their lives when police fired upon their peaceful demonstration. A statue of a "Martyr with a Flame" stands next to Flora Fountain.
Apart from the statue and the fountain, the entire area is filled with buildings and structures constructed during the Britain’s colonization of the country. A must visit when in Mumbai.
You can see beautiful Flora Fountain just behind the memorial statue. This is the place where you can find amazing shots for your photos and find the beautiful heritage buildings also. You can buy book just walkable distance & it’s known as FORT Books Lane.

Hutatma Smarak has long history and great importance in creation of state of Maharashtra. Hutatma Smarak means Martyrs' Monument. This Monument is in the memory of people who lost their lives in cruel police firing on their peaceful demonstration for Sanyunkt Maharashtra.

The statue was constructed in the memory of 105 martyrs who bravely fought in the United Maharashtra Movement. The name of the martyrs could be seen on the marble in the premises of the memorial. It's a metal statue but the salty air from the sea makes it appear as a green coloured structure. The place is historically more important than the famous Flora Fountain...

Hutatma Chowk is located in the busy financial district of Fort. It derives its present name from an incident in 1956 when a peaceful demonstration by the Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti (United Maharashtra Committee) was fired upon by the police resulting in 106 deaths. The incident was part of ongoing struggles of the Samyukta Maharashtra Samiti, amongst others, for the creation of the State of Maharashtra. The shooting proved to be a major impetus for the creation of Maharashtra on 1 May 1960.

The Hutatma Chowk square is lined on all sides by buildings constructed during the British Raj. An ornate fountain surrounded by delicately carved figures forms the center of the huge square. This was the Flora Fountain.
