Ligeti Bolt

Ligeti Bolt is one of my greatest discoveries in Budapest. It's a store that sells nuts and beans and spices in the most responsible way possible. Let’s say you run out of peanuts. Rather than buying the little plastic pack of peanuts at a supermarket, you can bring your own box (or any kind of container you have) to Ligeti Bolt and fill in as much as you want, from kilos to just a few nuts to try out. The same for dozens of other dried products, including pasta, flour, grains, and more! By buying products this way, we reduce the amount of packaging material we waste, and this more sustainable lifestyle of ours help create a greener and happier world for all of us to live in. Ligeti Bolt also had some of the cutest staff. The first day I visited, they had taken the initiative to try to communicate with me in English, crossing the language barrier to answer lots of my detailed questions about the nutrition of different products. In the conversations that followed, they became among the first Hungarian friends I have had outside of my study abroad program.

Absolutely love love love this place! It is a good mime in a tiny place. ☺ you can bring your own little jars/boxes/bags, etc to put your goods in, but don’t worry if you don’t have them with you as you can get them from there too. The price is very friendly so as the shop assistants who are happy to help you. Apart from grocery items, you can find serviettes, tissue papers, washable cotton pads for removing your makeup and also washable pantie liners, toothbrush, some body products, like soap, etc. I highly recommend you visiting this shop. It is very close to Nyugati, just a minute walk from the station.

Great no package shop. Kind owner and staff, and every spice we need we get from there. Try it, and feel how it is good for you and even better for the planet.

Large assortment of good quality food products to buy without packaging. Very clean and hygienic, which is especially important of course when people fill their own containers. Teas and spices are my favourites, but there's tons of other stuff from cookies and chocolate through pasta and oil, etc.

Great place to start if you want to try a waste-free life. It's practical to have with you some containers or you can buy them there.

A lovely, clean shop to buy groceries in bulk; it offers a good variety of legumes, teas, spices, and many more. You can buy cans, bottles, sacks of various sizes at the spot, or bring your own. What I appreciate the most is that I can return the empty bottles and jars and have a discount when buying the next batch. The staff is nice and friendly and they often expand the selection of goods.

Great place if you are looking for a zero waste shopping option. Nothing is prepackaged, you can buy all products in bulk with your own container. They have a diverse product selection but as they are a small shop sometimes they run out of supplies (for example I went to get olive oil twice already and it was out of stock both times) so be prepared that something you are looking for is not available. The staff is nice and helpful although if there are more than 3-4 people shopping things can get slow and a bit chaotic. All in all I really like the place, not your mainstream grocery store so don't expect that but the best shop in Budapest for those looking to decrease their waste footprint.

Excellent zero waste shop. The owners amd staff are friendly and very helpful, and speak enough English that I don't feel too bad about asking questions. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to cut down on the waste associated with their food packaging.

This place was my favorite package free shop. And the first that opened in Budapest.
Sadly it closed in this Aprile.
