This maybe long but bear with me.

I recently purchased an air rifle with scope from the Oxford Gun Company at the Kelmarsh fair. It was one of those spur of the moment decisions but was also not so sure I did the right thing. Also in the back of my mind I felt the gun was not new but was advised it was.

Anyway I took it home and started to zero the scope and to my dismay the sight was so off to the point I could barely get it on target. Shots were so inconsistent, as you can imagine I thought I was sold a badly reconditioned rifle and lied to. Felt pretty annoyed.

I emailed David who sold it to me in the evening and got a reply really quickly and offered to help over the phone. However I felt I had to see him face to face.

The following day I drove 1hr to the shop. I was not sure what to expect. On arrival I was met by Tom who heard me out very politely and then was taken to see Nicky who was very kind giving me options to return it and refund or replace it. In the meantime I was offered a cup of coffee. My aim was to get a refund and look elsewhere. But given how well I was being treated I decided to go with a replacement (Gamo 440 Hunter). Then I met Steve who helped fit a new scope (a slightly better one than the original at no extra cost thanks to David the manager). We then went their awesome shooting range to zero the scope. David was very patient and helped me for a substantial time.

What I thought would be a nightmare turned out to be a very good outcome. The team was so understanding and professional. The shop has loads of good kit and the shooting range is fantastic.

We went to shoot with a friend and got advice from David and the team. Having been a gun owner and hit previously, I was keen to get my son some lessons and started. David took us out, sized us for the gun, and gave professional and honest advice.

He worked with my budget, and we walked away with a gun for my son, and I also brought one. I was buying something that suited my budget. It was future-proofing me for the next few years. I had the opportunity for my family and I to shoot at The Oxford Gun Company again. As an American, I need to at least have a caddy (if not a full lesson) as I do not have a shotgun certificate and Geoff was most helpful in pointing out some of my mistakes and providing me a very good mix of targets. The grounds are well kept and a very good variety of targets from somewhat easy to very hard are presented. There is something for everyone and I enjoyed shooting the variety of targets, especially the presentations we do not normally see in America.

My daughter and wife chose to shoot airguns while I did my round of sporting clays. They were very complimentary of the service the received especially as neither of them had any experience with airguns.

Both times I have been there, the place has been quite busy but David and his staff have been very attentive to our needs, especially since we're on vacation with a somewhat tight schedule. I have nothing but compliments for the services we received.

I should note that the shop is quite well stocked and we left with some clothing in addition to the shooting. We very much enjoyed ourselves and we will definitely return when we are back in England next time.

As a beginner just starting out, I had a great lesson here with David, including the opportunity to try a few different demo guns to see which suited me best before purchasing. His tuition style worked well for me - just the right balance between advice and feedback on the one hand, and giving me time and space to work things out for myself on the other. I will be back soon!

Oxford Gun Company is without doubt one of the best grounds in the South of England. The staff are friendly and helpful, the ground and range of targets are always superb (with a few easy targets and some challenging ones to add variety). The shop is well stocked with everything from country clothing, boots and shooting gear for the clay or game shooter. David is a top bloke and always has time for his customers, I was lucky enough to be served by him recently when looking to spend some “pocket money” on a new gun and he gave me, for free, over 50 cartridges on his simulated driven stand across several guns. Gun shops can’t do that and most shooting schools would be loath to give that many cartridges away. Highly recommend!

David reached out to me after seeing a post on Facebook looking for recommendations on a new sporter. I follow The Shooting Channel on YouTube so initially wondered if it was a fake account, why would the guy from such a popular shooting YouTube channel be reaching out to me? I’m glad I didn’t pass it off as someone trying it on! David offered me his time at the gun school to try out several possible brands/models and I’m glad I took up his offer.

I was fairly adamant before arriving I wanted something in the Browning range and whilst I liked the 725, I actually found that I loved shooting the F16 and I’ve never been so accurate (I’ll put most of that down to David’s tuition). I would never have found that out without shooting before buying so that time was invaluable, even if my wallet is a lot lighter than I anticipated. That said, it was still completely my decision with no hard selling, the F16 sold itself, but David did sweeten the deal by offering me some more of his time for free to have some training, which I’m already looking forward to booking.

First class service and would definitely recommend.

What a awesome company. From talking to David over social media, to driving the 4.5 hrs down was well worth it. A 3 hr lesson quickly identified my issues and was resolved that day especially with gin fit.

I am a regular visitor here and it never disappoints. The sporting traps are altered regularly, the majority of the stands are covered so you are protected from the elements and the ground is kept very clean and tidy.

The staff are very friendly and always willing to give you a honest answer.

Overall a nice place to go for a few rounds of clays and a bite to eat.

Myself and my dad recently went to purchase our first guns.
We had a gun fit and a lesson to see what guns where better suited for each of us. I would definitely recommend anyone to go there as David our instructor was very knowledgeable and really helped me and my dad find the perfect guns for us.

Arrived today to pick up a Yildiz for my wife. Was a pleasure to meet Doug & David, very helpful and great service. Well worth the 2½ hour drive. Will have to pop up again sometime soon with the family.

I joined the club a few weeks back and had my first lesson today with David and a couple of test guns. He soon ironed out a few issues and got me hitting the majority of the clays. I ended up buying a new gun and some accessories to get myself setup.

All the staff are very welcoming, helpful and they know their stuff! I would thoroughly recommend The Oxford Gun Company to any new or experienced shooter. 👍

Special discounted price on Wednesdays of 30p a clay on the promatic clay layout. Brilliant variety of targets from expert to novice, set within mature trees and open spaces. Staff members are welcoming and friendly, so what are you waiting for go down and shoot and make some noise!

Welcoming and friendly from everyone on site, from the very start to the end, it was a absolute pleasure to get fitted and have a lesson at the Oxford Gun Company. I am not exactly local but the 1 hour journey was well worth the effort. I was so happy with my experience I ended up getting membership. that 1 hour journey may become very regular!

Visited the grounds on Saturday for my first ever shooting lesson which was with David. On arrival its a lovely place to be. As a newbie to the sport it felt very daunting at first soon as I walked in the shop was welcomed by Doug and have never felt so welcomed. David made me feel very comfortable out on the grounds and will certainly be back to continue my journey into the sport.

Upon my first visit as a total novice, I was made to feel very welcome by Steve and Doug ( Rare Old School Very Well Dressed and a courteous & helpful gentleman ) who immediately spent time teaching me how to stand with gun etc.. The second lesson David gave me a great un-rushed lesson of which I thoroughly enjoyed and later he set me up with lots of new gear… etc .. Cannot wait to continue lessons & learn all I can from these gentlemen..
The club and grounds are set in a lovely area as well! Great relaxed open space friendly atmosphere!

Shoot at this ground fairly regularly. My shooting buddy, Paul, and my daughter also enjoy coming here. Have also bought a couple of guns from here in the past.
Very good, friendly family run place.
