Excellent food & service. Soup was homemade and tasty, chips v substantial, quiche good, as was poached egg and avocado on toast. Great.

We had a lovely breakfast here on the 22nd of August. The eggs Benedict were particularly good as was the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. The poached Moroccan eggs with merguez sausage were also brilliant. We highly recommend the Motte and Bailey cafe. This is high-end grub not at all a greasy spoon.

There's no wonder there are customers waiting at the door to get in. Both the food and the coffee was amazing. The service was quick and efficient with very little wait time between ordering and getting what I ordered. Even with it being as busy as it was.

Don't be put off not trying to get in when you see it packed through the windows as they do have seating downstairs. However, I did wait just to get a window seat to watch the world go by as I enjoyed my lunch.

I will definitely be coming back again 😊

Stumbled across this lovely cafe while in Arundel early on a Saturday. The staff were very polite and friendly and the service was efficient. Food was very delightful and presented beautifully. Prices were what you would expect for somewhere that’s more than your average cafe.

Really excellent. I arrived in quite a hurry and they were busy. The eggs Royal were delicious and all of the service friendly and professional and quick as I had asked. Great ambience in here too - you're getting it right! Thanks for delicious breakfast

Enjoyed the vegan brunch here so much we decided to come back the next day. Really good selection of sourdough toast, homemade beans, smashed avocado, grilled tomatoes, let me substitute the mushroom for extra avocado without any fuss.

Very busy in between Christmas and new year, which for us felt like a good sign.

If you want good quality food with good service in an atmospheric cafe, this ticks all the boxes. Clearly managed very well and they really know what they're doing!

Service was very pleasant and friendly, especially from the young man that took our order, who was very patient and helpful reading bits off the specials board for my mum. Tasty burger and delicious chips (must have been triple fried to be so nice and crispy). My parents and girlfriend were also happy - my mum really enjoyed her quiche with three different salads.

I'm just leaving a quick review to big it up for the Motte & Bailey Cafe, who did their bit in restoring our faith in the local eateries & hostelries in Arundel after we'd just had a bad experience in another local establishment (my review of the Black Rabbit refers).

So, having had our best laid plans scuppered, we found ourselves looking somewhere else for lunch-time food and solace. We came upon the centrally located Motte & Bailey Cafe (although I'm not sure the 'cafe' title does it justice; we had what was restaurant standard food, and we noticed they're licensed, so I'd say this is more a casual restaurant than your typical bacon-butty cafe).

So after the indifference of the previous establishment we'd been to, it was refreshing to be greeted by a cheerful and attentive waitress who took our order, and with minimal delay refreshments were on the table in the form of quality coffees, followed by Eggs Benedict for me and Irish Seafood Chowder for my other half, chosen from the Brunch and Lunch menu. Both dishes really were as good as it gets. The menu catered I'm sure for all manner of tastes and appetities with a good variety of the typical fare including salads, burgers, sandwiches and desserts.

So, in terms of ambience (a lovely view across Arundel High Street), quality of the food, friendly and courteous service, pricing, and menu options (plus there's two varying menus dependent on the time of day), it's a five from me and likewise from my wife!

My wife and I went in for coffee and a cake. While looking at the menu is saw another customer's bowl of chips
I ordered chips instead of a cake. Heston Blumenthal; eat your heart out. I am 68 and the chips I was served that day are honestly the best chips I have ever eaten in my life, by quite a large margin. The cafe is a 40 minute drive from my home, but whenever I want sublime chips this will be my go-to destination.

Popped in on a wet afternoon for tea and cake. Delicious gluten-free, chocolate brownies and various non-milk options available. Lovely staff and we were not hurried away. There is a huge downstairs area so if it looks full do look downstairs where there is a very cosy snug next to a fire. And a very large number of tables stop I would recommend giving it a go.
But not having a meal I cannot say anything but the cakes were wonderful.

Lovely cafe with excellent, friendly service from staff. Food delicious with something to suit everyone in our group, eggs royale, mushrooms on taste and vegan breakfast were particularly noteworthy. Step free access, so easy for those with mobility issues - and dogs can come too. We had a perfect Sunday brunch!

Had a great brunch here. Managed to be seated and served quickly despite it being rather busy (clearly a popular spot). Coffee was great (with dairy free options). Portions were generously sized and reasonably priced. Sat in the quiet downstairs area but didn’t by any means feel forgotten about. Great location in the centre town, albeit a very small town!

We didn't have a booking but we got a table. Would recommend trying to pre book. The food was lovely and they had a good mix on the menu. We were sat downstairs, pretty much alone and the staff were very attentive, really good considering it was busy on the main floor.

A first visit to this nice eatery in picturesque Arundel. We were fortunate to arrive just in time for the last empty table and we quickly realised why the place was so busy. We enjoyed our choices from the menu and the coffee was of a high standard. We will certainly be back.

We had brunch here today - delicious pancakes and chai lattes 😋 the service was really fantastic and fast even though the place was pretty much full. Would definitely recommend - an asset to Arundel!

We ordered a bacon & sausage bap and 2 slices of toast. All tasted good, especially the brioche bun. Latte was lovely as well as the white Americano.
Quiet atmosphere despite it being busy and pleasant staff.
