This is my favourite dark ride and one of my top rides at Alton Towers. The combination of the architecture, theming and video/sound/lighting make this an immersive experience, topped off with one of the best themed rides I have ever seen.

If you haven’t been on it you should! It’s better than you imagine.

The hex ride takes you through a haunted castle past and lasts a 20 minute tour. The ride itself is about 30 mins long, so tons of entertainment. At the end you go into a big hall room which looks like a church. All the visitors sit on one huge chair. You got spooked in your seat and the chair starts to move. The wall starts to move and it lifts you so high you feel like you’re gonna fall out of your chair. It’s just the way moving and slightly the chairs up the sides of the wall.

Not great if you’re a fear of heights but I loved it.😁👍

I've only ridden 1 Vekoma Madhouse and it is this one - Hex: The Legend of The Towers. Its just such a clever design and implementation that makes this ride hit the spot in the way it does, ride after ride, year after year. No spoilers, but there is something here for people of all ages 🤩

I've got to follow this up to say - despite my daughter and I being thrill seekers - this is still my favourite ride in the park. Just the sheer mechanics of this thing, the engineering and design that went in to HEX to make it do what it does, you have to respect and appreciate it for being a very clever piece of engineering. It's massively under rated by theme park goers in my opinion - hence the line never being too long - but it's an absolutely mind blowing ride 🤯🤯🤯❤❤❤

A great but simple ride. The atmospheric build up, through the old castle sets the scene, leaving you wondering what's going to happen!
The final part, I'll leave up to you. No spoiler from me.

Probably my favourite ride in Alton Towers apart from Galactica, and that was even before I got the chance to go on it the other day. The theming is so well done and the ride in itself is very very interesting-it utilises the tower building very well and if you get the chance to go and do it, you really should. Even if you're like me who is into dropping down holes and flying in the air. There is one scary part in the pre show but it's not too overboard and that was probably just me being startled. This ride is what made me love and appreciate Vekoma Madhouse rides. ❤

World class dark ride. Tells a local legend, with a twist. Riding with first timers comes highly recommended. Recently refurbished for 2017 season.

I absolutely love this ride...it's totally mind-bending and beautifully themed. Riding it at first is really disorientating (just close your eyes if it makes you queasy,) but once you know how it works, you can sit back and enjoy it in all its craziness. Such a simple concept but sooooo fun.

This is a great Dark ride which is included in the price of your entry ticket. I didnt ride this when it first came out in what I believe was year 2000. I went on this first in 2002 when another ride made its debut. The ride has been closed constantly throughout this season and opens up for a day or so before closing again. When I last visited in July 2022 the ride was closed on my first day and opened from 1pm to 4pm on my second day in the park.

This ride is great because it starts with a small intro, you walk through the castle and it then gives you a tale of the Chained Oak Tree and the legend involved. After a couple of themed rooms you then go on the dark ride which has been refurbished. The lighting is so much better than when the ride first debut. The damage and wear + tear has been fixed. Overall the effects are really well thought out and the way the ride works is so clever. There are still some TV screens in the queue but half the time the queue isnt too long anyway. Great for when its raining, if its open lol

Best ride I have ever been on, your mind thinks you are going upside down but it's just the walls moving!!!! Although this ride is a really cool ride it's not the best ride for young children as they might find it scary at most times. Overall this is a really great ride for people who love haunted stories and mind blowing rides😁

I like this ride a lot. It is a fun spooky ride with a good story. Good thing as well is that the queue generally is not that bad.At first you go through a dark corridor, then you listen to a bit of history, then you go to the next room, where the legend of Hex is displayed on the projector. Then you go to the next chamber, where the witch will try to frighten you and then you go to the great illusion ride. Feels a lot more intense than it really is. You will think that you are going upside down and spinning 360 degrees, but it's just the walls moving. Great experience , certainly worth visiting.

Absolutely loved it! The storey is built up as you que to the actual ride. Luckily we only waited 20 min to get on the ride & it's well worth it, a great optical illusion with just enough motion to make you think your doing a 180 degree rotation.

I love this ride and so do my kids (now they are little older 😈). The back story as you queue really adds to the experience. I think some expect something different from the ride but I've brought teen-agers on here before who thought the build up was 'lame' but were amazed by the ride.
Yes it's a simple concept but very well carried off.

Suitable for families. Best ride for young kids that want to go on their first 'grown up' ride. 1st room is boring as it's just video but 2nd room is better as there's action and SPOOKY stuff. 3rd room is the ride where you sit down and spin around the room 360°.

Rita is fast, Smiler is exhilarating, Oblivion is the biggest adrenaline rush ever but my absolute favourite of all is Hex. I love how it's not white-knuckle loops and barrel rolls but it still manages to make me laugh like a child all the way through. If I could only choose one ride at Alton Towers, I'd choose this. Simple but effective.

Really an amazing ride. It immerses you into the story line and its fun to watch your friends get amazed by all the elements. Truly an engineering masterpiece.

Love this ride. Alton towers at its best - excellent theming, a good story and making the most of the park's historical assets. I'm always a bit apprehensive about swinging rides as I suffer from motion sickness, but Hex doesn't leave you nauseous, just amazed!
