It was an amazing walk with amazing views. It's good to get your heart pumping when going up the hill. very enjoyable. And a steady walking pace with breaks takes about 1 hour 30 mins to navigate to the top. Once at the top amazing views. Would recommend when the weather is right. Bring correct shoes, food, and drink. Recommend doing the walk with others

Novice walkers don't be fooled by the weather. While the weather is fine and calm at the bottom, the top gives a different picture, blustery to gale force at the top. Other than that the walk to the top was strenuous not having walked here before, took a different route back to the carpark which was a little easier, but all in all was a great experience.

I wanted to do this walk for soooo long so decided to make it a birthday treat! Walked a route around the base of the mountain from the car park then up the bridleway on the western flank of Sugar Loaf. Easy walking and beautiful views. The walking got more craggy towards the top and a woman walker descending told us somewhat huffily that she usually walks up the “other side” but there’s no one-way system on Sugar Loaf! 😂
There were about 20 people on the broad flat top including families and dogs on leads. It was a dry sunny/cloudy day in August so the shadows were changing constantly and the views terrific as it’s one of the highest in the Black Mountains at 1,955 feet high or 596 metres above sea level. There were aerobatic jackdaws, meadow pipits, mountain ponies, sheep (keep dogs on leads) and wimberries. We took a more direct but gradual route down so it was about 5 miles in all but the National Trust says it’s possible to walk it more directly in an hour. Well worth it. 😊

Love this mountain, panoramic views for miles on a good day. I went around 3:30 on a Friday and didn't see anyone, we had the whole place to myself which was nice. Wild horses and sheep roamed around the mountain which was nice to see. It was very windy at the top when I visited so make sure you have the proper clothing and also footwear. It's a great walk that starts flat and gradually increases until at the top. Lovely hike, great view, would recommend

To get up to car park, it's a bit challenging, but once you are there, the view pays back. Amazing place

Ready walk with wonderful windy views.
Beware of the nuts drive up to the carpark and pray your clutch is in good order!

Fabulous walk. A little slippery in places as the frost hadn't melted. Great scenery with views to Pen y Fan and Cribyn.

Absolutely breathtaking views and not too steep of a climb. Many different ways to walk up but recommend following the west path up the mountain and coming down the south west path. We also stopped at the vineyard cafe on the way back to our cabin and tried some delicious wine x

Sugar loaf was a walk we wanted to do for three years and attempted during covid. However, the car park was closed off then so we walked from the town and after getting half way up the heavens opened and we had to turn back. This time the car park (one of two) was open thankfully. If you are not a confident driver think carefully about the drive up as it is very narrow with very few passing spaces. There were spaces available in the car park. The walk itself isn’t too difficult and is quite flat to begin with. The scenery is lovely and you can see from the offset that there are several ways to the top. We chose the one to the left. The walk slowly becomes steeper but nothing too difficult really. It is only steepish two thirds of the way up and is still manageable by most people. It’s a well worn path and there are plenty of rocks to get a good foot hold on the way up. During the walk up the scenery transforms the higher you get with Blorenge and Skirrid becoming visible. You can see Abergavenny and the surrounding hills. We were also able to see Pen Y Fan ( a favourite of ours) in the distance. Once you get to the top you have a stunning 360 view. It can get a bit windy but it’s possible to shelter in places so you can have a rest, a bite to eat and enjoy the views.

Steep single lane road, complete with hair pins to get to Glyn Tyrrel carpark. From there it is a not too difficult walk up to the base of the summit. The last part to the summit is steep but walkable. From there you can continue further along the ridge. About an hour from Glyn Tyrrel car park to the top.

Nice viewpoint. Car park is large. when i was there i saw that you can camper overnight in this place. There is another parking lot in front of this viewpoint. From the parking lot there are two walking routes to the top of the sugar loaf, one easier, the other shorter but more difficult (I chose this one) I recommend the place amazing views and silence.

It's a good walk. I think it takes about 20-30 minutes to walk up from the car park. I did the Pen Y Fal circular (found on OS Maps) which took several hours. There's stunning views for miles around and few visitors meaning that it is very quiet as well

Lovely walk up to the top. Can be a little hair raising on the single track road up to the car parks. I'm glad I didn't know what it was like beforehand. There are lots of different routes to do once here.

Beautiful snowy walk up the sugar loaf today. Parked in the national trust car park. Plenty of parking spaces available. Good sign postage. Quite steep driving up to the car park. Definitely not suitable for motorhomes.

Enjoyable 7k hike up Sugerloaf from the 1st car park up the lane. Both 1st and 2nd car parks are free which is nice. Easy to follow the route and fantastic 360 views from the top.

Medium level hike, beautiful scenery all around. Sheep and wild ponies on route up to trig point.
Worth a visit.
No public toilet or cafe here, no obvious wheelchair access. Owned by National Trust.

What an amazing place. A steady walk from the car park before a slight rise to the summit. What phenomenal views you are privileged to see from the top. It’s an achievable climb for an excellent reward on a day with good weather . Do it NOW!!!
