Jempson's Rye

It makes quite a change to find a supermarket not owned by one of the national companies like Tesco or Morrisons. I wondered how competitive the prices would be but from the limited browsing and buying I did, it seemed to be perfectly reasonable. Staff were very pleasant and whilst there weren't a lot of tills, I didn't have long to wait. Not sure how it would be at busy times however. There is a good size car park with free parking for up to 30 mins or £2 for up to 2 hours which is refunded if spending £10 or more in store. All day parking is available on Sundays for just £2.50. There is also a launderette machine in the car park.

Just brillant to see an independent business operating. The feel is European and the efforts made, make shopping here very enjoyable. They also add a bit of fun with bits they sell not available elsewhere. Well done team Jempson’s

Great shop. Significant that most bad reviews are about the car park! Who cares? Motorists expect to ignore rules with impunity.

We have been using Jempsons at Rye and Jempsons at Peasmarsh for over 20 years. Only a 10 mins drive from Camber & Sea - The next nearest
supermarkets are a good 20 miles from Rye, East Sussex. Those being Tescos and Sainsburys etc.

There is cheap car parking outside the store for up to 2 hours which allows you to explore the town of Rye. The store itself is a supermarket with most of the usual brands you'd expect to find but they also produce their own foods such as baked goods as well as some lesser known brands. Very good.

We popped into Jempsons whilst visiting Rye. We thought it was a very nice shop. We were very impressed with the bread and cakes. Very tasty indeed, with the cakes being exceptional value. Also bought some very nice pies and sausage rolls. Prices were a bit higher for some products but that is understandable for a shop this size. Staff seemed very friendly. We will certainly stop at a Jempsons again when in the area.

Opening hours are very convenient, as I often do my shopping at 6am. There is also a large parking in front of the store and the entrance is wheelchair accessible. There is a great choice of produce and very nice staff.
There is also a post office inside (however opening hours differ).
If you are looking for the cash machine, there are 2 in front of the entrance (I think they are accessible 24h).
There are also laundrette machines available for public on the side of the store, a bit further to the right from the entrance.

Not cheap, but good selection of products. Happy to find Cook range of pre-made meals and selection of fresh vegetables.
Can improve: could not find fresh basil to go with tomatoes and mozzarella; frying pan was shown at £20 but charged at £21.48 at the till. Assistant corrected without issues. Hard to keep all prices in sync, so not a big deal if decided in customer's favour. :)

Very impressed by this shop - and the fact it is not a Tesco or similar, like Asterix holding out against the Romans. Can’t remember the last time I shopped in an independent supermarket and the range and pricing was very good. Read the history on the website and it’s the real deal. Am on holiday in Rye so sadly won’t be a regular customer but hope to be back before long.

Love coming here. Everytime we go to the caravan we pop in and do our shopping I love the range of fresh cakes is just yum. And the other foods you can get and all at a reasonable price
Staff are very helpful welcoming and smart.
The store is always clean and shelfs stocked very we'll managed in my eyes.

Love this store always treated with kind helpful people. I was so sorry to hear of what happened to the manager today such a nice guy did not deserve to be assaulted by a shop lifter. I hope you are okay and recover quickly it's disgusting that you had to go through this and about time the police and government protected our retail staff. King regards to the manager.

Excellent and unusual produce that you don't find anywhere else. Fabulous heritage tomatoes, large lettuces, curly and flat endives, golden beetroots, gorgeous field mushrooms and a wide range of beers, wines and spirits. Pleasant and helpful staff. Note that the store doesn't open on Sundays - I am not religious but I really approve: we all need time off and shop workers are horribly exploited in this country, in my opinion.

Not been here for a year. New shop face. Very clean and tidy in shop. Good range of fresh and local produce, now has a post office inside. On site parking but beware of the half an hour free parking in the pay and display. Good range and reasonably priced.

Popped in in the middle of the week to get a pizza treat for the technicians at our company and ordered 7 fresh pizzas to be made and heated, and the guys in the deli sectioned smashed it. Thank you so much, I cannot remember your names unfortunately, but the tall gentleman said he was new and the lady is often seen behind the counter.

quite a wide selection of things,sort of super market / farm shop. I bought some cheese and took it home but my friends ate it then vomited it up later because they'd drunk too much...I'll have to go there again and replace it.The cheese was obviously more mature than my friend!

Was pleasantly surprised to find this spot when coming to visit Camber Sands the other day. Had a very nice cashier and overall pleasant experience. Great place to pick up some lunch before heading to the beach.

Where has this store been for my entire life, as a "Non-Local" I am incredibly disappointed in the lack of stores elsewhere in the country. How a supermarket has become a holiday visit destination I don't know. It Is friendly, well kept and great everytime!

On holiday, never been in before, all staff was very helpful and knowledgeable especially on getting certain vouchers like for Xbox or for your computer, delicious food and drink to buy. Fresh cream cakes are superb.

Still can't believe how great over the counter curries are. Been buying for ages and the quality of the chicken is 2nd to none plus the sauces are top quality. Best value for money without a doubt compared to what Indian restaurants charge. Thank you jempsons.
