The beer was good and the food (steak and ale pie made on the premises) was fantastic! Good helpings so I would say good value for money. Staff very polite and friendly.
Hadn't been in this establishment for about 6 years. It was CONSIDERABLY better than my last visit. Keep up the high levels you've achieved. I'll be back!

Went the evening after Valentine's Day so it was obviously very quiet. Very friendly staff without being over-bearing. Great menu, though maybe a little too mushroom-heavy for me but they happily adjusted to my tastes and created a different sauce from scratch. We each had a different dish for our mains and each looked and tasted great. Loved it.

Fantastic choice of lunch venue. From placing a booking to leaving was perfect. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Everything we chose to eat was exceptional. Proper country pub home cooking at its best. Even the toilets were a pleasure to visit. Thanks so much for an awesome experience.

Had my birthday celebration here. Food was really tasty and plentiful, as always.
There was a variety of choices, including for our picky vegetarian grandson. Service very relaxed. You never feel rushed.
Staff are always very pleasant. This is our regular go-to for meeting up with friends.

Went yesterday for a Sunday Roast , 7 of us meeting up as a family. The food the staff the place is amazing . They could not do enough for us. Altogether this is a quality top place to go. We will certainly be returning. Well done to everybody at the Golden lion for a memorable occasion.

If we could give this pub 5 stars plus then we would!! Found this pub on google search whilst on a visit my family. We all decided to give it a go after reading the reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious, every course perfectly cooked, very flavorsome, and well presented, absolute top compliments to the chef. The service was very good, our food arrived in a timely manner and was served with a smile, it was a great experience and we would highly recommend.........we are definitely going to come back when next in Winchester. Fabulous experience.

Our 3rd time here, and it really has become a firm favourite! Today we had roast beef and roast lamb, and it honestly was the best pub/restaurant roast we've ever had! Don't think we'll even bother trying anywhere else next time we fancy a Sunday roast, in fact! Starters and desserts were fab too, and just about finished us off, luckily we had to walk back into town afterwards to work it off... Until next time!

Amazing, family friendly pub with astonishing food; Me and my family don’t remember if we ever had such a good food.

Although we have been in a bit of a rush, staff could come across our needs and bring our food in no time.

Staff was very open and friendly and made us feel like at home.

Absolutely incredible food and great service. Literally outstanding food for a pub. More like fine dining but at pub prices! It's a good job we live an hour away or we'd be spending so much money in this place! Very very impressed and highly recommend. Great food for kids too, and there's a decent play park down the road 👍

What a find! Wonderful food and great ale and wine selection. Warm and cosy, with equally friendly staff. Will definitely be back next time were in the area.

Only 6 stops on the bus from the caravan and motorhome campsite, also walkable from there approx 40 mins.

Considering it was January 2nd there were still a lot of diners. The service was warm and friendly and the food, oh the food, was magnificent!! Great selection of specials and the quality is exceptional, I really cannot praise it highly enough. The stuffed chicken was superbly cooked and the accompanying veg and dauphinous were perfect. A real surprise, highly recommended!!

Fantastic food (gorgeous, light crispy batter on the fish & chips!) and great selection of ales and wines. Staff are absolutely lovely and we had a wonderful evening introducing some friends visiting from out of town to our new local! LOADS of covered outdoor seating as well. Our new pub-pup-in-training gave the place 5 stars as well!

*May 2023 Update (because Google asked for it): Food is still *chef's kiss*, staff are still lovely and the roses in the back garden are in bloom and smell fab so definitely recommend wandering around and giving them all a sniff while you're waiting for your food!!

Very good menu selection. Food well cooked and presented. Staff very friendly and helpful. Toilets spotless (always a good sign).
Externally the pub is a picture with masses of flowers and an imaginative garden layout. Can't recommend this place enough.

Found this lovely place and gave it a try, the food and atmosphere was so nice we have booked a table for tomorrow night. Definitely worth a visit for good food and family friendly.

Once again a perfect Christmas meal with our group from Naomi House Winchester shop. The food was excellent and the service was perfect. A great atmosphere for our group as we were given the area at the back all to ourselves so much fun was had by all. Thank you to Mark and the staff.....

Food was way above "normal pub grub", great place to eat.

Great vegan options, I had the ravioli followed by the ginger sponge with vegan ice cream, both of which were delicious. Lots of parking, incredibly welcoming and friendly/knowledgeable staff. Will definitely return :)

Excellent Sunday roast. Fresh cooked and very tasty. A little different from the usual roast and better for it. Good friendly staff as well. Efficient service and food came quickly as well.

What a great pub, and a great 😌 place to meet with friends and family.
We had a table of six for lunch and the food was excellent, well priced and served beautifully.
