We had booked to go down the river Wye as a group of 9 for a 2 day canoeing/camping experience. Throughout the booking process I was greeted with nothing but fantastic support and guidance relating to good places to visit and camp along the river, alongside how the whole canoeing experience worked (and which routes would be most suitable). The customer service combined with an incredibly decent price makes it a no brainier for a return visit in the future!

The experience as a whole was simply fantastic and exactly what my group of friends needed! The facilities were well maintained and exactly what you could ask for. There was also some “pop up” for tents over the weekend we were there alongside a well stocked bar.

All the staff were incredibly accommodating, answering all questions and always greeting us with a smile (even when raining)!

Special thank you to Rob and Kasie for making everything so seamless!

Stayed at this site for a couple of nights in July 2020, our party were most impressed with how well the Covid situation was being handled. Toilets and showers were always spotless and it was explicitly explained that there was a shower and a toilet assigned to each group. There was plenty of signage to ensure each group knew which shower and toilet was theirs to use.

It was nice to see that the campsite was not overcrowded meaning our party felt that they could appropriately social distance from other groups. We have stayed at other sites recently where this has not been the case!

Staff were friendly and kept to strict social distancing which meant that we were largely left to our own devices. However we saw a member of staff talk to another group about a fire being too close to the ground. Staff clearly struck the balance between keeping guests safe but not unnecessarily pestering which made for a relaxing atmosphere.

The setting is beautiful, right by the river and has canoe and kayak hire on site. Several of our party partook in this and had a great time, at £25pp for 3 hours we also felt it was reasonable.

The site is a short drive from the lovely town of Hay on Wye which is well worth a visit, lots of nice bookshops and pubs! We found that every establishment we visited had strict measures in place to keep customers safe.

The site is well priced, well maintained and well managed during difficult circumstances. The staff are doing a fantastic job!

Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and are looking to return very soon.

We have just left the campsite, have to say it was a lovely short visit, drove from Bournemouth on Friday evening after work, found the campsite well, although google maps took us passed the campsite a few roads, so we had to double back. Arrived around 7pm, the staff greeted us, and we discussed where we would like to pitch our tent. We asked if we could have a quite corner and after speaking with Luke he let us chose a lovely spot. We did have our own toilet and shower but again we think other people were also using these. The shower was freezing, which was a massive shame as we then had to use the worlds smallest sink to wash.
The hot tap on the sink was also far too hot, might burn children’s hands.
Saturday morning we looked for access to the river wye to launch our inflatable kayak, and after speaking to Luke again he explained a few rules to us and where we should aim to get out. We had a great couple of hours on the river and arrived at Hay on Wye,
Where we saw the staff from our campsite helping other canoeist into the river.
Again the staff were great explaining that we could carry on down the river and get out again at Whitley on Wye, at the Boat Inn.
We ran ahead to see if we could get a table at the Boat inn but they were too busy.
We had another good coupe of hours down the river, and we got out at the Boat inn,
Deflated our kayak and went and sat on the grass outside the pub, we managed to get a couple of cheeky pints, and then tried to call a taxi.
THIS WAS A NIGHTMARE! Not one company on google had a correct number or was too far out.
So we called the campsite, within 20minutes, Luke was at the pub to pick us up, for only a tenner. He was brilliant.
Overall the place is gorgeous, not massive but perfect for our little getaway,

I would just say that the toilet/shower facilities could do with an upgrade, the shower was freezing the whole time we were there, Section D.

also a couple more taps for fresh water, and maybe a washing up area would be great also.
Maybe a little shop to sell cold beers or ciders, and ice,

Thanks guys we will be back!

Great campsite right by the side of the river. Rob the owner and his lovely family gave us a lovely welcome and made a massive fuss of our little sprocker pup. Another big shout out to Carl a lovely and friendly member of staff who joined us on walks with his dog Elise. Would recommend to anybody who loves the outside life and we will definitely be back on a regular basis. A big thank you to all especially from Bonnie. 👍

Great place and well organised to be fit for covid lockdown. Facilities are all really clean and well looked after, the cafe has great drinks and ice cream. The grounds are lovely, green and quiet. The access to the river is good and their hire facilities seemed really good too.

Lovely campsite with easy access to River Wye! We spent our days paddling on the river and relaxing with an open fire in the evenings. Very well organised and clean facilities. They offer great pizzas in the evenings and tasty bacon rolls for breakfast. The staff really looked after us and treated everyone with a smile!

Just returned from my second stay this year at The River Wye Campsite and I will definitely be going again.

First trip was almost immediately after lockdown measures were eased and the campsite was great. One shower and one toilet per party, hand sanitiser in all of the correct places and social distancing being enforced and modelled by all staff.

Toilet and showers were clean and more than adequate. I always managed to have a hot shower but I did make sure I always followed someone else in, I think the first person that went in always got a slightly colder one. As mentioned above we were designated our own shower and toilet due to Covid but in normal circumstances, there would be two showers and two toilets per male and female facilities and then I believe one disabled toilet and shower which was very spacious.

Cafe on site. They serve bacon baps in the morning and pizzas in the evening as well as the usual hot drinks, soft drinks and snacks. There is a lovely marque set up outside the cafe with heaters and benches which was great when it rained and our party wanted to continue sitting outside. Great little touch as bad rain whilst camping usually means you all just have to go to bed or squeeze into one persons tent, this marque meant our party didn’t have to!

The campsite is situated on the river. Lovely to keep kids entertained netting small fish and the adults had a lovely swim in it (whilst it was low). Staff are well knowledgeable with the river and always happy to advise. There is the option for canoeing and kayaking on the river which is booked through the campsite and provided by staff there. We paid £25pp for a 3 hour journey to Hay on Wye where we were then picked up by mini bus and bought back to camp. Brilliant touch that staff allowed you to return your boats but gave you time in Hay to grab a beer before they took you back to camp. I believe you can go for longer down the river to other locations which I assume have a different cost and time scale.

In terms of location, the campsite is a 10 minute drive into Hay on Wye which is a gorgeous town for literature and has many small cafes and independent businesses to support. If you wish to stay in the area of the campsite, there are a couple of small pubs within walking distance, cafes to use and a lovely big garden centre/farm shop.

I enjoy running and my partner enjoys cycling. There were some gorgeous cycling routes as well as paths along the river for me to run along. For people that enjoy walks, I am sure that would have been perfect too!

All in all, I’m not sure we will fit in another camping trip this year but whether it be this year or next, we will return to River Wye Campsite.

Many thanks for such a lovely stay!

Had a brilliant weekend at the River Wye Campsite, after a half day of canoeing from Glasbury to Hay-on-Wye. Staff members were very knowledgeable on the health and safety when on the river, as well as being helpful when getting us all kitted up with our paddles/dry bags etc. Highly recommend.

Fantastic campsite with all the necessary facilities, really well located for adventures on the River and in the area, both of which the site can facilitate. Very helpful and responsive staff that are very accommodating, there's even a cafe onsite in case snacks are needed! We will be back.

Gorgeous spot by the River Wye, with a handy cafe for drinks and ice creams. My children loved playing in the fields - spacious but enclosed so fun and safe. Friendly staff with plenty of activities on offer.

Excellent site, despite the complications of the Covid situation the site was spotlessly clean and well run. Nice relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and plenty of space. Super close access to the river with the added attraction of canoe hire
