O Chiltern hills, rolling green waves
Cloaked in beech and oak woodlands fair
Wanderers roam thy valleys and knaves
Finding solace in thy pleasant air

Thy quaint villages with cottages of old
Nestled softly in thy sheltered dales
While flocks graze as they did of old
And o'er thy hills the skylark sails

Soon to gain that noblest preservation
As a national park for all generations
Protecting thy landscapes as inspiration
For romantic poets who find elation
In simple pastoral consolation.

A great place to walk. On the edge of Luton there are wonderful walks, with options to walk at lower levels or up on the hills with views overlooking the town on countryside. There's plenty of wid flowers to enjoy too.

Great place to explore and get away from the city. Plenty of trails to go through and things to see. Lots of space to have a picnic or play some field games

Absolutely beautiful walk along the Thames here from Hurley village car park. The car park is free, but don't leave it too late as it gets quite busy.
It's worth mentioning at this point that, as we came out without water, we visited the little shop in the village to buy a bottle. We were very pleasantly surprised that they are not a profiteering little local as some are. This place is run by some very lovely ladies, selling a good range of groceries for the size of the shop, at a fair price. Example, our 500ml bottle of no name water was 80pence. They are very helpful too.
We chose to go left at the river this time, having done the other direction just before the first lockdown, also very nice. The river bank was quite busy, not so much that we felt uncomfortable, and everyone was enjoying the Bank Holiday sun in their own way. There were quite a few paddle boarders and kayaker, along with boaters, some going a bit faster than, perhaps, they should.
We walked for about an hour, past a mobile home site on our left, through sheep fields, and finally to the rear of some lovely Riverside houses and bungalows. The owners were very friendly in the main and were either enjoying the weather or tending the garden.
We only turned back because lunch at home was calling, but I think you can continue for a lot further. If you go this way, do yourself a favour and look out for the house on the opposite bank which used to be a Benedictine priory. It is stunning.
Back to the shop for a couple of bottles of tonic water to go with lunch, gin and lemon included of course 😋👌

Beautiful hills and woodlands just to the north of London. Drive to Henley or Marlow and use Fancy.Free Walks to find a free circular walk along woodland paths and through quaint villages

Ashridge Estate is a stunning place for walking. I had a glorious day, plain sunshine and I enjoyed it so much after having been ill the rest of the week (still not very better but well enough to walk for 4.5 hrs). Very varied landscape, amazingly beautiful and well kept.

A very pretty nature escape in south east England. We parked our Car at Christmas Common Car park then started off our journey. The walk is very pretty and scenic. Make sure you take plenty of water with you during this spring / summer season as you will frequently feel the need of water. The surrounding is very vivid and colorful. You can spot deer, rabbits living in peace and harmony. There are some benches to sit and relax. I highly recommend this Chiltern Hills AONB. Thanks.

A beautiful scenic area with stunning views across rolling hills. The Chiltern Way path is well sign posted and an ideal way to see this beautiful part of the country. Some of the hills are challenging but worth it for the views at the top. Some lovely pubs in the area as well.

Some of the finest countryside in the UK. Plenty of paths to walk along and pubs to stop in for refreshment. It's hard to beat being by the river in the summer
