Quintessential Czech experience with absolutely outstanding food!

This place does the best pork knuckle I have ever had in my life, and I've had some awesome knuckles before.

We came here somewhat randomly as the pizza place nearby was full, and I am so happy we did. It was moderately full of Czech locals, mostly older people, enjoying beers when we arrived.

They do not speak a great deal of English but enough to make do with tourists, and we attempted to use as much Czech as possible, which seems to be very appreciated. Service was kind and attentive.

Everything we ordered was genuinely delicious. I didn't think it would really surprise me, and I expected typical, midrange pub food. I was so wrong. Every dish we got was excellent. Czech sausage, breads, pork knuckle, cheesy spaetzle (strapačky), sauces, drinks... everything. Cooked to absolute perfection. Beautifully crispy skin and juicy meat bursting with flavour.

I still dream about the pork knuckle. 🥰

Wholly positive experience that I cannot complain about in any way. If this is traditional Czech cooking, it made me fall in love with Czech food.

Update february 2024:

We went here 2 times on our visit and the ambience and hospitality were so great! The Goulash, this time, was amazingly good. The schnitzel was astonishing. Warm and friendly service again. We were impressed by the comforting ambience; nothing fancy, but in the core so good and welcoming!!

The jokes and great laughs of the owners and their service made us to come back 2 days later, and they just were lovely every time. We love this restaurant; simple, yet so effective and warm. Great food. 5 stars, all day long!

I went for local food on my stay in Prague. Just simple. Matejicku was just that. I wouldn't come for fine dining, but I absolutely would for ambience. Wooden tables and chairs, the elderly pair coming in to eat next to me, local hospitality.. These are things that make a visit.

I was alone, got (how couldn't I?) the beef goulash with a cucumber salad. I wasn't into alcohol yet, so the Kofola was really tasty! The Goulash unfortunately had a few inedible pieces of meat (reeally chewy).

All in all, not touristy, no fine dining, but, just good food at a fair price with great local staff. A warm little establishment!

Nice place to eat. Soup was really good. It was really good for winter time, clear garlic soup. Hot sausage soup. it's a shame it doesn't come with Czech bread. Very tasty recommendation. Beer very good. All praise for the restaurant.

Great Czek food and authentic atmosphere. The meat was good and goulash too. These two dishes combined with two beers had a final bill of 19,90€, wow very convenient

We enjoyed our lunch here. The venue is more laid back and not touristy which is nice.

Best place to eat, drink and chill in Prague!! They have lunch menu beside the normal menu, the prices are really good for big dishes. They have tradicional food, was delicious. The staff was really friendly and really patient to explain everything. They have the menu in multiple languages, even Spanish. They even gifted us lolipops!!! The place has a really beautiful view to buildings. Recommend it 1000%

You should definitely order their Czech beer, it's really good. ;)

Also, we had 3 dishes!
1. Roasted Duck with traditional dumplings alongside of bread and salad.
2. I had their traditional old bohemian "Strapacky", really delicious!
And at the very last we shared their blueberry filled dumplings with vanilla sauce and whipped cream. Also a good treat. 😉

The lady that was serving us was also really friendly, she spoke English with us which made me happy as I was still trying to learn czech. Would definitely visit again.

A small restaurant, in a really central place in Prague with value for money traditional Czech options, quality food and English speaking staff!

I definitely recommend this restaurant if you want to try the Czech cuisine! We had pork tenderloin with mushrooms sauce and mashed potatoes, it was delicious! We had also chicken fillet with salad which it was a bit dry I would say. Last but not least a garlic soup which was also very good! We paid around 800 for two persons. Fair price.

What a great place to find on a cold night. I had a chicken Schnitzel and my wife had a pork Schnitzel and they were both tasty. With some perfect boiled potatoes and salad it was great combination. I would also recommend the garlic soup.

More of a "pub" than a restaurant, but with fantastic Czech food, and wonderful friendly staff. We will be back for sure!
