Staročeská krčma

Ate here my first night in Prague and came back the next three nights in a row after being blown away on night one (steak tartare appetizer and the roasted pork knuckle dinner).
Night two was the "Svickova", a very tender beef cutlet in a cream/root veggies sauce with two kinds of dumplings. Basically tasted like Thanksgiving dinner. Delicious comfort food. I will be making this dish at home
Night three was a no go, even though I got there 20 minutes before what I had been told was closing time for the kitchen. The manager said the kitchen was closed. I kind of understood, though all I wanted was the Ghoulash, which would have taken the kitchen almost no time (and I saw several dishes go out after I arrived). But ok...
My last night was a bit of a fiasco, but worked out ok. I went planning to get the Ghoulash, but then saw they had a "Duck confit" special. I went with that. Big mistake. It was NOT duck "confit" (cooked in its own fat), it was some kind of braised duck (cooked in a broth, not fat). It was incredibly overcooked and VERY tough. I knew right away as I TRIED to cut in to it that it was bad. Duck confit should shred easily with a fork. I could barely cut this poor duck with a knife...So I sent it back, offered to pay for it, and ordered the Ghoulash. The manager came to check out what was up and started to give me a bit of guff, but as soon as I took my fork and knife and TRIED to shred the duck in front of him he shut right up, apologized, and took it away.
The Ghoulash was delicious.
So, basically, other than the duck fiasco (which they fixed quickly and at no charge) everything was very good.

Perfect beer - Pilsner and really helpful, positive stuff. Always professional Mr. Jacob and Mrs. Regina tell about best drinks and beers in the card menu. Good prices and localization also Perfect. Highly recommend, will come back with friends. :)

Such good food! Our kids enjoyed the meatballs, and the pumpkin risotto with chicken breast was fantastic. Kind service and nice transitional Czech ambience.

Awesome place to try traditional check food. The waiter knew very good English and was very polite and helpful, the atmosphere was very pleasant and the food & beer were very delicious. Highly recommended!

Food was delicious and the price was honest, not many tourists in that are, some make it very original and local, A hidden gem.

We were looking for traditional Czech food away from the tourist part of town and had a great evening here.
It so happened that there was a live band playing at the place the night we were there. After the performance the band and their friends partied outside, next to us and we very much enjoyed the vibe.
The food was great, the beer superb (how could it not be in Czechia?) and the times were good for everyone.
Steak tartare was fabulous; I will go back to Prague just to have that again.

Very big and juicy steaks. Loved the Vampire pork steak. And the Old Czech Needle was really big and tasty.

Had a fantastic experience. We felt very welcomed and the food was delicious at affordable prices.

Amazing food. Very good tap beer. Super nice and cozy. Try the goulash with the branboracka oh my god you would eat your fingers after such meal. I will come back more often.

The portions are huuuge; especially the tartar I ate, it was more like a main course by its size! I also ate chicken in black beer sauce and felt like I couldn't fit it in me. 😅 But both were really tasty and really really reasonably priced (read: insanely cheap); I don't know much about Czech food, but I'd say you should totally try Staročeská krčma if you are looking for such - or basically any food.

The waitress was also really nice and helpful. Full five stars, would visit again anytime!

We absolutely love the authentic eatery! We went here our first night in Prague and were easily won over by a roasted pork knee. The prices were affordable and the waitress was very friendly!

Hi I came across this place by chance on my last evening in Prague this last week. It was a delight..the owners, they are new it seems, are excited by their new venture and were lovely to me, friendly and chatty..which let's face it is unusual in Prague and indeed many cities now..the food was good and well priced..the atmosphere will build over time, but I liked it ..certainly somewhere I would go again for a real honest taste of czechia

Very good lunch and perfect beer

Wonderfull ambient and very nice people. Cheap prices and good beer. After dark the place is great, light is only with candles, no electric light. Soups are great, meat dishes are a little to fat (my taste)

Good place to eat a dinner and drink beer. Meals are very big and they have also vegetarian options. Prices are okay. Nice fireplace inside 😊
