Almacenes Ultra

Almacenes Ultra Department Store is one of the remaining major department stores in what was once the fashion capital of Latin America. Other stores still in operation in Havana include Bazaar Ingles, Flogar, and La Epoca on Galiano Street. Fin de Siglo on Galiano closed in 2017 and El Encanto, a huge full-line department store similar to Bloomingdale's in the US was destroyed by arson in 1961.

With the exception of La Epoca, which was remodeled in 2017, is a vertical mall, and has A/C and adequate lighting, all of the remaining stores have suffered as their American made elevators, escalators, and air conditioning systems gradually failed and parts to fix them have been embargoed by the US since October 1960.

Almacenes Ultra can be appreciated for it's architecture, grand history, and views. In the current economic difficulties in Cuba, all department stores including Almacenes Ultra are facing severe merchandise shortages, as reflected in other comments.
