Mercado de Alajuela

Totally local market. Not a tourist trap. Fresh meats, cheese, spices, fruits. Watches, shoes, all kinds of stuff.
Tons of sodas to grab a bite to eat. Fun quick stop before or after the airport. We did paid parking lot right around corner from market.

We stumbled across this jewel wandering around the downtown center. Lots of interesting stores, shops and eateries. We had a traditional Costa Rican lunch coached by one of the staff members. A great experience!

A one stop shopping extravaganza. You can get all your shopping at a Mercado. A-Z, if you can imagine it, it is usually there.

Anything you may need is here. Great food for cheap.

Very clean, kind business owners, not pushy at all. Many speak English and are always willing to negociate price of souvenirs. Very close to main bus terminals.

Great experience, there are some really interesting food choices here at good prices, you can get awesome produce to take back home and elevate your cooking game. While your there you can shop for certain necessities and also grab a huge meal of hearty traditional food.

Great downtown Market with many lunch counters, clean bathrooms, lots of different shops and close to the park museum

Very interesting marketplace under one roof. Lots of people and unusual objects for sale. Cell phone repair, home remedy herbs, watch repair, weird meats and fish, bathroom service, lots of local food restaurants, lottery numbers, and friendly atmosphere. I recommend it.

This place is a blast. Need a hand made leather belt, a really good one, real cheap. here. Want some rustic cigars cheaper than cigarettes. Here. Fresh fish. Here. Just do it. You'll find something you want. A lot of old hand craft work here. I promise you, this market is a prerequisite for any real Costa Rican cultural experience. This is real.

This place is a one stop shop. They have everything plus the real Costa Rican experience. The food is traditional and tasteful.
