Atmosphere: the place is very big and has many different places to sit. Recommend to sit outside in the inner garden.

My current obsession: the smell of the pastries is divine and the coffee is amazing, especially for someone not keen on the standard bitterness of American coffee.

This is one of the few places with a coffee "tasting": they will prepare 3 types using different methods. Great introduction to costa Rican coffee.

Delicious coffee (tried 3 different types), good food with perfect presentation and nice calm garden at the back of their place. The best take out of 3 I had in San José.

Outstanding Café !!! especially if you loooove coffee, and the menu is full of perfect pairings - croissants - sweet or savoury, breakfast/brunch diversity including avacado toast, salads - you name it. After 12 noon the menu extends as well! If you have kids, there is even a small playground in the courtyard. If you are looking to get beans or ground coffee to go, this is an easy place - as every region in CR is represented, and if you know what notes you prefer, they know their beans!

Wonderful little spot for a simple breakfast. Power was out while I was here so no fancy coffee beverages, but they served a very nice cold brew.

The coffee here was great! They had so many different ways to make coffee for you to choose from. They asked me what type of coffee I liked and chose the beans from it based off of that. Portions were decent. I came with my husband and got a mushroom quiche and it came with a side salad.

There was plenty of space. It would be a good place to study/work too.

One of the best places in San Jose to get brunch. The coffee is amazing, they have lots of options for both drinks and food and the quality is great. Would really recommend going here.

You got to love this place. It’s a beautiful coffee shop with different rooms with different vibes. Great coffee variety. The food is also excellent. The meal portions are a bit small. The passion fruit pay is pretty good, and the apple tart was ok.

This place is fantastic! Great options, good prices, nice people. Fresh ingredients and plenty of them. Perfect. I was torn between sweet or savoury for way too long and never felt rushed by anyone other than my companion. Everything you could want. I ended on the wild mushroom omelet, no regrets.

Trendy, hip coffee shop in San José with lots of coffee type options. Lots of different spaces to eat, work, and sip coffee. A bit pricey

Very delicious coffee and cheesecake. The waitress is extremely friendly and speaks fluent English.
I like sitting in the little garden because there's a playground for kids and a lot of green plants.
Definitely worth a visit when you're in San Jose.

Great breakfast! One of the best meals I had in town.
I have it 4 stars for food rather than 5 because the croissant was a bit too toasted.
Everything else was great.

Found my favorite new place in San Jose to spend the day working and relaxing. Had THE best omelet with salmon and goat cheese and then proceeded to try 3 of their 10+ coffee choices from regions all over Costa Rica with 8 different preparation methods, CafeOteca is a coffee lovers paradise. My curry chicken sandwich was ok but the chocolate ginger cookie knocked my socks off with intense ginger flavor. Will undoubtedly be back soon to plant myself in their lovely garden area and try some more café and pastries.

Awesome find! Delicious food. Beautiful renovated home with large windows and natural light. Every corner is nicely utilized. Spacious patio. Friendly staff. Treat yourself! You will not be disappointed.

Delicious food, spectacular coffee and pastries, excellent friendly service. I went here in the mornings while my wife was sleeping in to enjoy the miraculous coffee in the big airy courtyard seating. Coffee is toasted and pastries made on premises. It costs a little more than the average but is so worth it. They also have a lot of coffee from local farms and a staff with sommelier level knowledge about the bean. Would recommend for sure and will be back next time I'm in Costa!

Kalu was hyped up a lot and I finally tried their food. I was very very happy with the roast beef sandwich and the chocolate tart was fabulous. The location is gorgeous, especially during summer. The prices are the high side and the portion won't satisfy a big eater. I look forward to go back and try other of their dishes.

Great place to relax in the nice part of San Jose CR. Great ambience, friendly staff, tasty food, great mimosa! I was very pleased with the quality and the quantity of the food. Great experience coming to this place! Prices compare to Seattle are a little cheaper.

Very cool place. Coffee is great and the atmosphere is chill and cozy. I walked into the place being new in San Jose and Laura the server was super friendly, nice and engaging. Also she took the time to explain the coffee roasting going on and all the types of coffee they sell retail. Cool place!

If I could give this place more stars I would! I set out to this place after randomly googling coffee places near me. I’m so glad I randomly chose this one. The staff is incredibly friendly and speaks great English. The coffee itself is mind bendingly good and they staff is happy to go in depth on anything you wanna know about them. I spent 2 hours sitting at the bar chatting about all the coffees and ended up ordering three cups to compare. They were all incredibly delicious and showcased a whole different side of Costa Rican coffee then what we could get in the states. These are micro lot speciality beans, handled well, roasted perfectly and brewed to perfection. I literally can not say enough great things about this incredibly coffee oasis in San Jose. If you are there and have any sort of love for coffee do yourself the favor and visit them. You will not be disappointed, if I’m ever back in San Jose they are my first stop with out a doubt!

Top tier in every way. Coffee tasting experience, brunch, and overall great environment. Service always is excellent.
